Our home is "Gothic Revival" 1855 ish

At an age most might think of down-sizing, we just moved into a 112 year-old Victorian with twice the square footage of our old place. Owner did it up beautifully with a period look maintained including some of the original intricately carved brass hardware on the doors, embossed, "tin-type" kitchen ceiling, faux silk wallpaper. The walk along both sides of our property is the original brick sidewalk from that era and the only place in this town where it still exists. The brick walk extends up to our front door and then around to the side garden area. 1 of the bricks in the walk leading to our front door is inscribed "don't spit on the sidewalk," no doubt a reference to the century old ordinance prohibiting spitting on sidewalks. If I was good with posting pics, would have done so. Even have a land abstract of the property detailing every transaction going back to the platting of it in 1872. Interesting in itself as it is an historical chronology in small snippets of the founding of this community including an entry noting the deeding of the property to the town's company by president US Grant. I appreciate your curiosity Miss Stella and Tonyb. My wife had gotten the urge for a larger place because our immediate family has long gotten together for several days monthly at our home for a long time and we were starting to feel like we were living on top of each other and she talked me into looking. Nothing tripped my fancy until we looked at this home and we fell immediately in love with the place. One thing not "period" is its siding but I'd never buy a place I had to paint, especially via a 2 story ladder. Am not necessarily into Victorian furniture but we do have this lovely dark walnut early 20th century suite of dining room furniture I fell in love with and insisted we buy years ago in an antique shop that my wife didn't like until this place because now we have it in a dining room big enough to give it the space it needed to show properly. Thank you! We had a hard time deciding where to put the tree this year, as the spot it occupied the year before now has a large piece of furniture in it... So in the foyer it went, in front of the phone booth. Our neighbors loved that they could see it walking by!

This is a great thread! Tatum, I just noticed the phonebooth -- Ahhhh, I would kill to have a phonebooth in our house. Kidding of course. I saw one years ago at an antique mall for something like $1500. Nice natural wood panels and all, probably 1930s, but way out of my price range. Years later, I found a vintage tiger oak wardrobe that could double for a phonebooth if I had a payphone mounted inside. Not bad for a consolation prize...

lol I have many, many console TV's, there's more in storage. I don't know what I'll ever do with them all, but they're like lost puppy dogs. I can't let them be put down!

I have one nearly that age and she can still do plenty.
