yeah. Consider the price this fool could've got for those ties. Probably $10 a tie maybe?

What a waste. I also saw a quilt recently that made me weep. A coupla Dali's in it!

In all fairness to the age, women made aprons, quilts and I have even seen bathing suits made out of ties. The bathing suit I could almost over look---especially if I could look it over.

From the Internet Archive here's about ten minutes of an amateur film from what looks like a businessmen's dinner/awards ceremony...color no less...from the early 50s. It's interesting to look at all the colorful and nicely patterned ties worn by your everyday man back then.

From the Internet Archive here's about ten minutes of an amateur film from what looks like a businessmen's dinner/awards ceremony...color no less...from the early 50s. It's interesting to look at all the colorful and nicely patterned ties worn by your everyday man back then.

I would say it looks like somewhere in the 50s that is for sure. One guy had a really skinny tie in there though.[huh]
There were quite a few neckties that I could steal off of a few necks there.
The other thing that you notice is that every one looks neat and clean with their hair combed and shaved faces.
That time is unfortunately long gone. If you invited a group of people to such an event today you would get dolts in short pants and sandals no doubt. They would likely be eating at the table with their baseball cap on backwards too.

About time someone posted on this thread...I would concur with at least early-'50s. Most of the lapels were very wide, but there were a couple of thinner ties in the mix. (Of course, let's not forget that thinner ties were available even during the Bold Look period.) As to JP's comments about them being neat and clean, well, that is unfortunately true for the most part. I went to a wedding recently, and most of the men present didn't even have on a sport coat, let alone a tie...

If I'd put a year to it I'd say 1954. It seemed to me that more of the younger men were wearing the thinner ties while the geezers hung on to their belly-warmers. Heck, they each probably had at least a hundred or so hanging in their closets...
