I've seen just as bad from the 20s/30s. The only difference is the fabric. I agree that the 70s polys were worse than the 30s rayons, at least the hand was worse. But the 70s ties were far more resilient to wearing. Those 20s/30s 5 cent ties are incredibly fragile, and reading Apparel Arts etc. would suggest they were that fragile when the were made.
But the patterns? Poor aesthetic sense has blighted design houses from the beginnings of design.[huh]

Great. So the 70s ties are uglier and will be around longer---being ugly. :eusa_doh:
When it comes to '70s ties, you just can't seem to win, JP...:eusa_doh:
Finally, some nice finds at the Goodwill recently...
(L) 'Country Club Original' by Kreway. (R) unworn 'Artistic of Balto'
[/IMG]
a pair of unworn 'Melmores' (L) mid-50s, (R) late-40s/early 50s
[/IMG]
no label late-40s/early-50s
[/IMG]
plus several more unworn late-50s narrow square-bottoms
Here is my one and only. I hope you don't consider it as ugly, though...
Yes, it's from Suomi. Manufacturer is Petrifun.I actually like the muted colors, TG. Is it from Suomi, or another country, and who is the manufacturer?
Very nice, QB. You have a knack for finding ties, particluarly NOS...Never heard of Melmores. The Artistic of Balto looks late '30s, don't you think? And I'd like to see the square-bottomed ones if you don't mind.
Quigley,
those are some fine ties, excellent finds. It only makes me that much more frustrated that my goodwill store in Juneau is so remarkably lacking!
When ti comes to 70s anything I just can't win.
The Artistic has all the construction style from 1930s, but still it just seems too wide to me. Here's the squared-off ones. This design is actually my preferred (at the moment anyway).

Very nice! Is the middle one wool? I especially like the blue one; unique design, especially for that period. Any labels on any of them?
