A neighbor lady was going to give this lamp to Goodwill, so I snatched it up as quick as I could! Been looking for a decent one like this for a while. Rewired it and got it back to working order.

The following is a SMALL sample of the dozens of items that I've picked up in my perusals of the local flea-market, junk-shops, antiques shops, second-hand shops, bric-a-brac shops and various antiques and specialist-interest shows...

DSC05789.jpg

Starting at the back is my glass, silver-topped inkwell. Currently filled with Sheaffer Skrip black. In regular use and is topped up at least once every two weeks.

Next to it is my wooden, brass-fitted cashbox (+ key).

In front of that is my rocker-blotter. Wooden, with faux red leather. Ca. 1940. Screwed firmly into said blotter is a sheet of blotting-paper, itself covered with (mostly black) ink, from all my writing.

Wrapped around it is one of my watch-chains. Brass, gold-filled, with a gold, 50c. piece attached to it, as a watch-fob.

In front of it is one of the representatives of my fountain pen collection. In this case, a 1950s Parker '51', with a 10kt gold-filled cap. Filled with Sheaffer Skrip black, and in working order. Writes like a charm.

To its left, is my Model 1895 Waltham pocket watch (which reflects the time this photo was taken! 4:56pm!) Attached to the watch is my other, gold-filled watch-chain.

The chain comes into contact with...

My Conway Stewart M87 (filled with ink and in use).

My nickel-plated dip-pen (recently fitted with a fresh nib. Currently in-use).

My 1914 Conklin crescent-filler (fillled with ink, and in use).

Next to them, is my tripod magnifier. Very useful for reading maps and stuff like that.

Yesterday morning my husband went out for his haircut, and stopped at a couple of garage sales on his way home. When he got home he told me that one of the sales had a table that he "thought might be Heywood Wakefield." He tried describing it, I asked him about marks and he said he didn't see any. I thought "yeah right" and blew it off, thinking it was probably some plastic Ikea thing. Later in the day we were out running errands and we ran back by the garage sale as kind of an afterthought. Well, sitting in the front yard was the table, still there. I recognized it, but was still in disbelief... until I flipped it over and almost wet my pants when I saw the Wakefield mark. I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough! lol

So, yesterday's yard sale find: Heywood Wakefield 307G cocktail table in wheat finish... $20.

First Day of the New Yard Sale Season and I hit the jackpot. It was an estate sale, mostly tupperware and furniture way out of my price range, including a 1950's fridge which I admired from a far, I found this. My giant 6 X 4 Humphrey Bogart Poster. They had a James Dean one too - but I am not a big Dean fan. The poster is slightly water damaged and a bit ruffled but at a bargain of 12 dollars after haggling down from 25 after assuring the owner that I was the biggest Boggart fan in this little Northern city, I made off with it. 12 dollars is steep at yard sales but I REALLY wanted it. It currently hangs in my bedroom - dominating the wall and the room.

Nice Borso, Michaelshane!

I had a pretty good experience at a local thrift store on Friday. The weird chain pattern you may see is the shadow from a hanging basket. :eusa_doh:

Sunbeam T-9 toaster

I normally work weekends so I don't get to yard sales much, but had today off, so I took advantage and hit at least a couple in the area. I'm normally not into kitchen stuff because I don't cook, not even toast, but I made an exception for this item since it's art deco. It works, so I guess I'll start making toast.

Here's one I found at Saint Vinnie's here in town. I asked the gentleman at the sales counter if I could test it to make sure it worked, he plugged it in and heard no ticking, and told me to throw it away for him. I asked him if since he was only going to throw it away, could I please have it? He permitted me to take it and away I went. Took it home and disassembled it only to find a loose wire nut, put in a new bulb and was in business. It's a Mastercrafters Starburst, which I beleive is from 1959.

Off topic, and maybe I'm behind the times, but as I recall, back in the day, part of these types of charities mission was to teach people basic repair skills. Do they not do that anymore?
