Gilfillan 3-2902

I found two old radios in the alley today, they used to belong to my neighbor's aunt. One is an old RCA cabinet that is missing the radio and the other a Gilfillan floor model. It will need to be repaired, the cord is broken, don't know about the other parts.

I have a cell phone photo of the Gilfillan, but the RCA is currently in my garage (with the spiders).

Please excuse the mess in my boyfriend's guest room.

What do you guys think, I couldn't find any information about this model online?

Stewart-Warner

Model 1252 - "Berkley"

Stewart-Warner might be better known for automobile gauges and speedometers but they also had been building radios since the mid-twenties before introducing the "Berkley", or Model 1252, in 1934. The unusual cabinet design featured a two-tone finish along with a black japan top and included an asymmetrical grille that was reminiscent of the Art Nouveau style along with a curved buttress forming the lower half of the cabinet. The chassis was a five-tube superhet with AM-BC and one shortwave band (6 to 17MC) and had an unusual tuned antenna preselector stage. Tubes used were 6A7, 6D6, 75, 41 and 80. The eight-inch speaker resulted in excellent sound quality.
----------------I didn't mean it was made during Art Nouveau period. I meant it had an Art Nouveau styling like this one. Curvy lines.

whatever it seems it is a lovely radio and fabulous find.

Florsheim Wingtips, very little wear - $6.99

Florsh.jpg

Hand-knit wool Aran sweater for my wife, appears to be unworn - $3.99
I have a photo of my mother wearing a sweater like this in her college days in the 1930s.

AranSweater2.jpg

An unusual Pierre Cardin wool jacket with black velvet trim. The color is a deeper, more raspberry shade than appears in the photos. The coat is fairly short, coming just below the hips, gathered beneath the cape and flaring out like a little girl's smock. Little Red Riding Hood does Gothic Lolita...

Wow! Love all this stuff, especially the telephones! Love the candlestick! Puts my collection of 500 series phones to shame :(

And the funny thing is, as I was scrolling through, being a car guy, Stewart-Warner caught my eye, and I thought that someone had found some need old gauges. Didn't know they made radios!

No photo, but last weekend I picked up an early 3 1/2 point Hudson's Bay blanket at a gunshow for $40-mint condition, with the small red and white label. I just got it back from the drycleaners today. I bought two of these for my parents back in the 1980's,and I always wanted to get myself one,too-but never did, until now.

Another beautiful clock, Vic!

I found this lighter at the Pasadena City College Flea Market last Sunday.

It's a '40s Berkeley Director. I replaced the flint, so now it works.

Where did you find a flint? I've been looking for one for my 60s lighter, but can't find the right size. I tried a local cigar shop, but they didn't have the right size. Rite Aid used to carry them, but don't seem to know. Every other drug store I called had no idea what I was talking about.

I happened upon a smoke shop at Hawthorn and Manhattan Beach Blvds. a few days ago. I just asked for flints and the guy handed me a package of Zippo brand. [huh] I didn't know they came in different sizes. What brand is your lighter?

I've bought all kinds of things from flea-markets...

Books, my pocket watch, the two chains that go with it, fountain pens, CDs, DVDs, dip-pen nibs (entire BOXES of them!), a magnifying-glass...all kinds of things. I'll upload photos as soon as I can.
