'55 Chevy Hood Ornament
Picked this up last month and subsequently sold it at my dealer space in the antique mall.

It's hard to believe that they allowed those on the front of car bonnets/hoods. Imagine the damage from being hit by one of those at speed.

In fact it's from internet classifieds. A 1930's electric record player Ultraphon. Connected to line-in input on laptop plays loud, but not with the radio, don't know why.

Antique/vintage three-draw brass telescope. Engraved on the barrel with "C. Simon". Probably the original owner. Comes with shutter across the eyepiece to prevent damage and ingress of dust. And a sliding condensation and glare shield across the objective lens. A lovely piece of brass.

Condensation shield extended.

Fullest extension. Length: 20in. (compact length: 6.5in).

Sliding shutter over the eyepiece.

The engraving or scratching or whatever you wanna call it. Almost impossible to read except under the right light.

Pulled it apart for cleaning.

I picked up this signed and numbered print [the 1st out of 150] 'The Gaits of The Horse' by Helene Alison at the local Flea Market for only $2.
Some of her work goes for high dollar, not sure about her prints.
But for what I gave I plan on getting it framed. I kinda like it!

Here is a collection of original space drawings that were done for book illustration. They are undated but likely pre-date the space program - salvaged from a NYC print shop some time ago.

The print depicting the "Gusmobile," better known as the Gemini Spacecraft, has to be from 1961 or latter. 61, was when McDonell Aircraft was selected to build them, the first one was delivered in 63. Interesting find.

Thanks for the heads up. I had thought without the familiar United States markings that this was an earlier rendering, but looking at photos it is clearly the Gemini capsule.

1940s Shoe Shine box with KIWI polish tins

Shoe shine boxes aren't uncommon finds in the thrift but I thought this was a particularly nice set. It even came in what is likely the original shipping box (such a perfect fit) which states on it, "FOR DEFENSE, SAVE and SELL this empty carton as wastepaper".

Any FL carpenters/woodworkers that can tell me if the wood tote is tiger oak or curly maple? The tote is assembled with brass screws and is in virtually new condition. In the tote are two large brushes, each stamped(incised) "STERILIZED" in very tiny letters. There are also two small handled brushes with no markings, each wrapped in polishing rags. The tote also contains two wonderful KIWI boot polish tins with fabulous graphics. The only marking on the tote is on the bottom: U.S Pat. No. D107945.

Along with this tote came a plastic Hilton Hotels bag with four Griffin brushes: two large and two small handled ones. The bag itself it kind of interesting, listing the Hilton and Statler hotels around the world and also a list of the phone numbers of six reservation offices in the USA and Canada. (If you'd like to make a reservation, you may call The Palmer House of Chicago at Randolph 6-7500, Extension 476.) The bag even advises, "We suggest that you keep this moisture-resistant bag. It has many uses while traveling - or at home."
