Amazing story Bugguy! You have to wonder at the journey some of our flea market and thrift store finds have taken.

Great find, Bugguy! Interesting that they have a historian at the company. That is way cool.

I guess the founder was a tinkerer. They started out making toy trains in the 1890s and he kept playing and inventing. They are top-tier in maritime and security spotlights now. They have a small room in their office - kind of a museum and have many of their originals. Hopefully they'll add these. They also made the U-shaped magnets that were in the old crank telephones - the crank generators. He had a really diverse business model. They were great to talk with.

Giftmacher those are outstanding pieces. They look great!

Bugguy, what a find. It's awesome that you were able to track down their history.

I stopped at a garage sale Sunday. I noticed this on the last table, when I saw the price tag, I thought maybe he didn't know what he had! Unfortunately, he knew exactly what he had. Had to do some haggling, but got it a little cheaper then the going rate. Incidentally, I know where a real one is! Been trying to get it away from him for a couple of years. He finally quoted a price, 5.5 million dollars. Can't help but think in 20 years I may be telling people how ridiculously cheap I could have bought an ACE for! :D

I posted about this in the "Excuse me, Miss, do you blog?" thread, but in case any of you don't read that:

I picked up a handwritten 1958 travel journal at a local estate sale (the author has passed away). Twenty-four-year-old American Judy B graduated from university and set off on a two-month-long summer tour of Europe, faithfully writing every day in her journal about the places she visited and people she met. Judy B has such a sunny outlook, her journal is always upbeat and positive... it was such a joy to read that I've started a blog about it at www.judytravelsabroad.com.

Anyway, this is absolutely one of my all-time favorite acquisitions!

What a find! You are nearly reading a book----probably beter than a trashy fiction novel for sure. The young lady probably never expected that to happen but she did quite a job to even touch you from so many years away.

She really is an inspiration. The tone of the journal is so upbeat even when things go frustratingly wrong (lost luggage, etc).

It never ceases to amaze me the things a family will sell when a loved-one passes away. Photos, journals, etc are fairly common at local estate sales. (Though this one is something special!)

Not quite the same thing, but these are my purchases from the 2014 Melbourne Pen Show.

Rubber ink-sacs for repairing old fountain pens.

Nib-clamp for removing nibs and feeds.

Small gobbet of silicone grease.

Small bottle of shellac-glue.

Traveling vesta-case manufactured by Toulmin & Gale...

...the same company which manufactured my treasured 1860s writing-slope...

Yes, it is a shame they just junk everything. Personal things like journals and photos really surise me. Nobody cares about where they come from anymore......

Yep sad but true JP the other week whilst taking some rubbish to the local dump I saw an old drawer full of old black and white photos and they wouldn't let me save them just threw them in the skip as nothing can go out anymore!
