That’s why I’ve avoided the hot irons so far.

I want to get my brand in the same place it’s registered for my stock, with the lyrics from an old Hank Williams song in a circle around it. “Though I may struggle and strive, I’ll never get out of this world alive.” I’ve thought about having the actual brand formed out of the words, still up in the air on that one.

That sounds good . I'm not a tattoo fan , and my advice is definitely don't get anything you'll associate with a bad time in life . Better to drink beer and just go home . I like the brand idea though if you're going to do it . Some how I escaped the crazy stuff I thought about doing when I was younger and I'm thankful . I don't have anything against those that do like em though .

You are right, and whilst I would never even comment on anyone's tattoos, I will admit that I have never seen a tattoo that could have inspired me to have one.
When our neighbour's marriage broke down they argued over almost everything, even their cat. To resolve who would take the cat they offered it to us. She was a pedigree Birman, some call them Himalayan, and her markings were known as Torty/Tabby. Her name was China Doll. That cat lived with us for twenty years, she died peacefully in my wife's arms. I used to joke that the cat and my missus were both witches, if one or either were missing then they must be aloft on the broomstick. My broken hearted wife had her own tribute to China Doll.
The inscription is written in Wiccan and reads: "China Doll."

Just an example of how the Fedora Lounge bleeds into real life: just this evening I was telling my wife how much I admire how GHT and his wife have a “take no prisoners” approach to life. You know what I mean. In the best possible sense.

I have one that dates back to my military service and one representing my wife and marriage.

My wife is definitely not a fan, so I stopped getting more ink after we were married .... but ... after a year of running the covid response here, I am seriously thinking about memorialising this period with a plague doctor:

I love this thread, it is a shame that so many of the pictures are now missing!
Yeah its the whole site , photo bucket kicked the bucket .

I believe photobucket still exists, but they went from being free, to charging a premium fee if you wanted to share photos from their site, to charging if you had over a certain quantity in there. (And they make it hard to get out: you have to download one photo at a time, no option to download a whole folder....).

The best option is to include your photo as an attachment to the post on this site. WE have the bandwidth, and it means that threads continue to be useful going forward. You can use the "upload an image" button or - as I recently discovered - simply copy and paste into the text of your answer, and it will be stored in place on TFL's own servers.

Looking for advice here, maybe. A few months ago I started toying with the idea of getting a new tattoo. I stumbled upon an artist whose black and white work I just love. She has two designs on her website that I would take in a heartbeat. The trouble is, she is in Europe and has no plans to visit the US.

I am surrounded by some great artists in Texas, but every design I look at I keep thinking, well it’s not like the ones I really want from the artist I’m a little obsessed with in the Netherlands. I feel really bad because I’ve started chatting with a few really talented local artists and shown them her designs for inspiration- but before long I loose interest because I can see that they are adding their own ‘flavor’ which doesn’t appeal to me as much.

Is there any option aside from just shelving the idea until I find someone here with their own design I like? Or the artist I like suddenly becomes big enough to travel here?

How bad would it be to ask her permission to get an artist here to copy her design?

Her portfolio, btw: https://www.selinactattoo.com/portfolio

Sorry I missed your post Tom, remiss of me. That take no prisoners approach is probably true. My wife, Tina, was a paramedic before retiring, she certainly saw some sights in her working life. My work was with an international conglomerate, I worked in their logistics division running the distribution centre of one of the UK's leading quality brand.
A lesson that I learned at school, that wasn't in the curriculum, was that of the head teacher's habit of peering over the rim of his spectacles at some recalcitrant. It was a stare that could strip paint. Unlike my head teacher, when I did it I would prolong the withering stare. Overhearing the conversation of a couple of the fork lift drivers, I had to smile: "I hate that effing glare when he looks over his glasses at you," one of them was saying. "It's like napalm," the other one said, adding, "I nigh on shat myself."

If ever there was a "YES" moment, that was it.

Back to tattoos, this story has been around the world, so take your pick on the original.

and you are a wise wise young man for waiting.

This would be the reason i only have one and its on my back.....because I might yet switch to a more conservative company that -cares- about such things...

And while only putting the pretty things where they are covered at even the most conservative job, might make me a sell-out to 'the man', I am an employed and employable sell out...... ;)

And now....since Lefty will come slap me upside the head for provoking debate in this thread......I shall distract and show mine, despite it being in the -other- thread somewhere...and a -really- old picture....taken when it was new...Done by the mistress of celtic knotwork Pat Fish....I had her picked out as the artist I wanted for oh 10 years before I got over my fear of pain....and gave it to myself as a 31st birthday present.

Next I want a firebird.....but gonna be ages til I can do it.

Since its really hard to take pictures of your own back, you get two...one to see the placement and color...and another one for close up of the shading...which is off center and thus not the whole thing.
