Ah-ha! As the OP, I started this thread with the arbitrary brim width of less that 2 3/8 inches. Not everyone will agree with this “definition,” but I’ve given up trying to get universal acceptance on most anything. I think our 2 1/4” brims count for stingies (they sure look stingy on my giant melon).
OK that fits for me. My totally arbitrary limit is 2 1/4" but can live with stretching it a bit.

Kicking off StingeMas Stingy Week hoping for a stingy performance for my Miami Dolphins defense against the number one offense and defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Hehe. Lots of luck :)

Black Cavanagh with 1 7/8 brim sporting a Cavanagh edge. I stingily covered up the 1 7/8 black grosgrain ribbon with my home made Dolphins colors ribbon held on with a couple magnets. This one I found with my own initials on the sweat and it also gifted me a not to stingy Dobbs Guild edge that arrived along it it.

And as I type this Patrick Mahomes Is picked off by Byron Jones... so your telling me there’s a chance!

In solidarity with Joe McCarthy @Blare of Fedora Lounge fame, I begin my submissions to "Stingy-mas" for this season. Had to go to the store to get what I forgot yesterday (yes, at my age YOU DO have to write it down) so I thought it would be a perfect trip for a "slim-brim" hat. This longhair nap is by Penn-Craft, of England. The brand was a 1930s American brand bought up by Stetson. They sold the name to a British manufacturer (can't remember the name) and they resurrected the brand. This hat was made in 1962. It is also the only hat I have with a feather still in it. It was asking for one...

One of the only hats I own that kept its feather (raindrops in brim).

Oh, we're starting. Okay then, I guess I'll start with the stingy brim that started it all for me:

No6UkTO.jpg

This is a Winston Fedora that started life with a Center Dent crease. Fellow Lounger Historyteach24 had given it the Telescope crease you see in the photos on the left in order to give it more of a Pork Pie look. He listed it for sale in the classifieds back in March of 2016, it caught my eye, and a deal was made. I had to give it the Teardrop crease in the photos on the right so it would fit on my head, and that was that. It took a little while to get used to the crown being shorter than the other hats I had at the time, but I eventually realized I was the only person who noticed. It's moth-eaten, but that barely shows in the photos so...

Oh, I apologize for using old photos, but my laptop died and my wife's doesn't have any photo editing software, so new photos aren't possible at the moment.

Very impressive! It is on the slim end of stingy for sure. That ribbon treatment is truly spectacular! You just don't see this in a hat of the late 50s era very often. Nice.

On the second day of Stingymas, I opened my Brimvent calendar to find a nice gray work hat. The Hat City Hat Co. of Danbury Conn. produced some very affordable (low end) hats during the late 1950s. Since I'll be puttering around the house today, I thought that this 2" Stingy would be appropriate for the Stingymas season.

On the second day of StingyMas we attended a socially distanced outdoor wedding. I went with this beautiful dark blue 1950s Dobbs Twenty that came to me via @jlee562

It is very possible this one did not start its life out as a short brim and at some point had its wider brim with guild edge trimmed and restored with expert care as the brim has wonderful blind stitching possibly in a masterfully attempt to replicate the Cavanagh edge. The brim now checks into Stingyville at 2 inches and sports a 4 3/4 crown as shaped.

The brim on that Winston measures right at 2", but I think the low tapered crown makes it seem a bit wider. I haven't been able to find any information about when it might have been made, but I think the style suggests 50s so I'm going with that until something says different.

Up next is this goofy bastid, an even stingier inexpensive cotton thing with the name "Mirmaru" on a tag sewn to the back of the cotton sweatband. A cheap Amazon purchase, it was listed as "black" but has obviously had some sort of "weathering" treatment similar to the "acid wash" denim of decades ago.

When it's flattened out the brim on this turkey comes in at 1-1/4", so it's the hat I own with the stingiest brim; it looked wider in the sales photos.

A couple more additions for the second day of StingyMas

Here are two hats a bit large for me at 7 3/8 so they will be re-homed. If either are to anyone’s liking let me know.

Dobbs Cameron - Guild Edge - West Point (Taupe) 7 3/8

Dobbs Cameron - West Point (Taupe) 7 3/8
(prob Late 50s early 60s)
4 3/4 to peak of crown as shaped (about 5 1/4 open)
2 inch black grosgrain ribbon
2 inch brim with Guild Edge
1 3/4 Brown Sweatband

Here is a Dobbs Cameron with Guild Edge. I believe the color to be West Point a sort of Taupe color. It’s crown as shape is about 4 3/4 to the peak and about 5 1/2 inches open crowned. The 2 inch black grosgrain ribbon has a faded tan gradient in the middle of the bow that gives is a great vintage look. The Cavanagh edge (Guild Edge) brim is right at two inches. The brown 1 3/4 sweatband does have a few small cracks but over all is soft and supple and seems to have some life left in it for sure. It does not have a liner. Im guessing this one to be late 50s to early 60s.. probably on the 60s side. This hat originally sold for $16.50
