Awww.. I don't think they are ugly - that's just not a flattering angle. They look quite smart from this view..

I think they'd look pretty good with some HBarC gabardine western trousers, western shirt and a chocolate 20x Resistol cattleman hat.

Cookie, I'm curious--how can you tell anything abut age from the toecap broguing? It looks to me like the same pattern that has been used continuously for a century or more.

You are right in a certain sense because there are shoes which are made now that look similar to these BUT THEY DON'T look the same. These look a lot like Nettletons to me.

There is something about the proportion of these shoes that indicates late 40s to me. The toecap has a wider shape and the "wheeling" on the wide "stitched aloft" soles is very vintage. The wide punching on the brogueing detail. The "gooseneck" stitching...though even today this is popular with UK high quality shoes.

Marc Chevalier might like to give his opinion.

I have a few pairs similar to these from that era and after wearing and buying them for a few years it sort of jumps out at you.

Dinerman from recollection has a few shoes like Sproily's from the 40s.

Nice looking ,Dguy, but I see them being very high maintenance. Could you imagine spilling anything on them. You might want to spray them with a silicone protector.

Thanks everyone. I'm definitely taking good care of these!!

Tomasso- Shooman and Orgetorix hit the nail on the head. Not two tone, but the angle of the light definitely plays with the way the colour looks. I think they're listed as dark brown, but they've got a very strong red hue to them as well. Pretty cool, and a nice change from the usual black or colour8 shell cordovan that's normally out there.

The fact that the fit is almost perfect is nice too. lol

Love 'em! I wonder it they come in narrow widths...

You can get them custom made at Magnoli's site. If you sign up for an account you can put in all your foot measurements and they are made to your specifications. Pretty awesome, I just ordered a second pair for the office, dark brown. I'll post them when they arrive.

I wore through the soles of my lace-up roper boots, my black captoes and my cowboy boots. I should get them re-soled. In the meantime, I found these at the thrift shop- the soles are still in good shape. Heels are a bit worn, but waaay better than my current pairs.

Also ran across these, but they were too small. Camel leather. Huh. Seemed nice.
