Those Crosbys are astounding! Beautiful find.

I am picking up a NOS pair of 80s era Bass tassel loafers, made in Maine, tomorrow. These are like the ones I wore in high school, not the crappy imported ones they sell today.

Nothing like the Crosbys though!

Here are two of my favorites:

1) These are my John Fluevog winklepickers with a Cuban heel. I love the Art Nouveau stitching!

2) And these are my very loud pair of John Fluevog jam shoes in black patent leather and white pig skin.

This last pair is a pair of George Cox brothel creepers. These are not mine, I just think they've got some very nice detailing (though, the sole is a bit high for my taste).

Bill, I'd GUESS '60s. That style has been made, without much deviation, for around ninety years or so, but the tan sock and the apparent quality of construction make me think these are about fifty years old. It's also sometimes helpful to show the logo imprints inside the shoe and sole/heel style to get a better handle on vintage (unless the soles and heels have been replaced recently).

I'll photograph them tomorrow but I picked up a pair of brogues today that sure seem like shell cordovan. They seem (to me) way too durable and well, shell-like, to be corrected grain - but I'm still in the learning stages.

The thing is that they are labeled, "Stafford", which is Penney's private label.

When I think of Stafford I don't think of super high-end merchandise. My question to you is; is it possible that, long enough ago, they would have had Florsheim or Alden or the like make real shell cordovan dress shoes for them?

P.S. They have "Made in USA" printed under the logo on the heel bed and "C9" printed before the bit about them being leather uppers, etc. Leather soles and a washer heel.

That Bostonian logo design has a decidedly '70s feel about it. There was still some high quality merchandise being made in that era and I'll modify my guess to early- to mid-seventies but no later than that.

Well, I think I arrived at my own answer. They are not shell leather. They had such little wear when I got them that creases had not developed - but I wore them Saturday and below shows the result.

Still, fairly well-made (they have a better look, feel and 'depth' than corrected grain would) and worth the four bucks to have a pair of oxblood wingtips I don't mind wearing on rainy days. These probably date from the '70s or early '80s (total guess) because I doubt that Stafford brand shoes have been made in the U.S.A. in a while. Feel free to correct me or add any info.

That Bostonian logo design has a decidedly '70s feel about it.

That's what I was thinking. The heel design looks/ feels older to me, but I'm guessing they must have updated their logo but kept the heel design for some time after. I don't know how long Bostonians were made the US, but I would coould be pursuaded that the logo is from the 80's.

Where can a guy look to find vintage shoes, in size 10.5 or 11 EE. Are there any specific places where you guys shop on line?

eBay seems to be the most fertile online market though as with any secondary market it will be hit or miss and requires a good amount of patience, especially for EE.

Ebay does require patience, and the strength to resist beautiful shoos that almost fit.

l searched ebay for years for a pair of size 8D NOS Florshiem lmperial v cleat longwings, never ever did find a pair. l only ended up with a pair through a forum member; he happened to be walking by a shop and happened to find NOS v cleats. One of the most appreciated purchases i've ever made. l wish l could find more, but feel very blessed with my luck in getting a single pair.
