As requested, me in the coat and hat, ready for Christmas shopping circa 1943 (I can't get over how much I look like pictures from the 1940's of my great aunt Louise in the full length shot--it's kind of eerie). Hopefully you can see the hat--one handed photography is not my forte!

Woo hoo! I think hot sticks, though modern, get grandfathered in as vintage since they're so essential for those old fashioned dos.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I'll have to dig up that photo of Louise VB but I fear it may be in storage--I'll check. The shoes are modern (John Fluevog) but they seem to have been discontinued. Hideously expensive but worth every penny, I love them.

I adore Fluevogs! I have the Rosabelle boots (these in black), but I want some heels. Yours are uncommonly comfortable for high heels, aren't they? I've had my eye on these Operettas. Swooon.

I adore his boots--it may be a blessing in disguise that I have wide calves and I can't fit into them because I would be more broke than I am now if I could buy all the styles I love. The Operettas are fabulous--all those straps, I may actually cave and buy a pair of those eventually. Even though they're amazingly comfortable and well made I just can't spend that kind of money on shoes too often. They do have sales though, and I'm lucky to have a retail store in Boston so I can go try them on and "visit" them. They have the coolest staff too (of course).

I like the Todas a lot, and I think the Malibrans are gorgeous in almost any color! I saw some really adorable highbutton boots at the Los Angeles store, but I don't see them on the site now, argh. On the expense, I've just resolved not to buy any other shoes to make up for the price of these. I have probably 50 pairs of cheaper shoes, and I wear maybe three pairs ever, because the rest aren't comfortable. I love high heels beyond all reason, and have many pairs, but just can't wear them for very long! So I'd really love to have even one pair I could wear often.

On the Rosabelles: I read some reviews at Zappos before I bought them, and one girl said the calves were too small, so she just laced up a few eyelets shy of the top, but the leather is super soft and stretches easily, so in time she was able to lace them higher.

As with everything, it saves in the end to buy quality (but I still cringe at $200-$300 for one pair of shoes; I just can't help it). I've got clodhopper feet so it's rare to find nice shoes in my size on the thrift store scene but I got lucky this year and scored several pair of Kenneth Cole and a pair of Naots. The top price I paid was $20 (and often much less).

It's true. A quality pair pays off in the long run, plus you'll have a better fit. I've found that too.
I love how that hat matches the coat so well. I love when finds come together like that.

I'm so sorry to hear your mail is being stolen.
It may be worth while to get a PO Box and have eveything delivered there.
