The other weekend I bought a fan. A quick internet search tells me it's from the 1940s.

funky apron from the thrift store. it's in perfect shape. it's made of a really thick cotton. i'm guessing this is from the 60's, maybe early 70s? i don't care. i love it. i love funky things like this.

here are a few ceramic pieces i got at a tiny rural flea market. got all of this for $10. i collect 50's xmas things. and the elephant is pink. i love anything pink from the 50s. it didn't take well in the picture. but it's so cute with gold flecks all over it.

nice finds ladies!
Here's my recent ebay win, a lot of two shirtwaist dresses from the 50s. Both with Dallas or Texas labels, I love when I find something vintage that's from my own stomping grounds! (hopefully they'll fit)

Lovely items ladies!

Magneto and I went shopping and we ventured into a local consignment store. I found this hat,

They didnt come in together, but they totally match! :D

Also, in the purse, I found this Bond stamp.

Then, in a case, I found this lovely plastic bracelet, for only $20

CherryRed, I adore those lamps. They are amazing, and with the original fiberglass shades intact, quite a find! I'm so jealous!

wow lady day I love that bracelet! I've seen some like it before but they're always so expensive. Is it plastic or wood? I think the ones I've seen have been plastic, lucite or bakelite I guess.

I almost forgot about one of my amazon purchases. The pic below shows it with out the dust jacket (which is a bummer b/c the dust jacket has some great illustrations). Anyways, a great deal for less than $2 and a cool resource. I'm reading it chapter by chapter, its actually more like a tutorial or text book than an encyclopedia with a project for each chapter. Definitely something I'll save for my daughter (once I have one, and once she wants to sew) Anyone else have this book? I'm waiting on another sewing book that ohairas mentioned in another thread.

I have a very similar one, probably same book , different year....mine is red covered.

Its very cool and I will be using the plans in it to make a skirt for my vanity table etc.....and I dig all the slipper and shoe patterns!

cool miss neecerie, and yeah I'm sure there's different print dates floating around... shoe and slipper patterns? Sweet, I'll have to look for those. I'm taking it chapter by chapter but I might have to skip around a bit. I love finding new (to me, but actually old) sewing resources.

Heming a Vintage Dress

I wasn't sure where to put this so I thought since this was a busy thread I would try here. I don't have a photo. I can get one tonight.
This weekend I was soooo lucky to find several vintage pieces from the original owner. (I love when that happens!) One of the dresses is a very sheer navy with lace around the skirt. This lady must have been super tall. The dress is like 4" on the ground when I put it on. Generally speaking I try not to alter the life out of my pieces. But since this is so sheer and I can't just turn the hem up... Do you guys think it's bad to hem something untouched?

So I´ve been lusting for the Rago Lacette for about 4 years..... Now I´m the proud owner and hope it will arrive soon!!!

I really love my lacette, but my "girls" are set very high on my chest, so i find that this girdle flattens me out a little bit up top, even giving me the quattro-boob. I bet a different size would fit me better and wish there were a local place that carried them so I could try them on!

I did go to a new vintage store this weekend (new as in "new to me, I've never been there before") and I found a vintage white Lacette corselette, in the same size as my black one, but it fits a bit differently up top. I'm guessing it's a very early Rago, probably from the 50s, based on the look of the tag. It doesn't say "Rago" on the tag, but "Lacette" and has the same model number as their modern corselette, and is still the same floral design on the fabric! It also has non-elastic satin straps with metal clamp adjusters!

EPR25...I alter things all the time if I'm planning on keeping it to wear. It's very rare I ever find clothing that fits me perfectly. I think every woman should know a good tailor!

Here a current find from a vintage shop. I had the top taken in so it would fit better.

I just love all the hand work on the bottom of the skirt.

my weekend spree at Dallas vintage shops. My favorite find is the grey / red corduroy dress from the 40s that I got for $10! I had to replace the zipper and it does have some perspiration stains that I'm working to remove but still a good find. I also love the embroidered tunic, so comfy.
(sorry for the huge pics)
