This was the best picture I got of my (non-vintage) dress and it's not very good. I let one of my girlfriends do my makeup and she applied more than I think I've ever worn in my life--even so, my lipstick was pretty well gone by the time the photos were taken.

I'm sitting here in a pair of sweatpants and a snowflake sweatshirt, so I guess that's pretty close to PJ's.

OK - newsflash from Seattle - the annual big fireworks show at the Space Needle - the fireworks on the top never went off when the elevator reached the top, the fireworks show on the ground then stopped for about a minute, and this is all to be timed to music, so the music just plays...and now everything's blasting trying to catch up to the soundtrack...AND now the fireworks have stopped again at 5 minutes into an 8 minute show. And the crowd's boo'ing loudly... What makes it even sadder is that is a dry, clear night - in the past, they've had to deal with rain or wind or fog.

The kimono is vintage in a sense, the fabric being more than 50 years old.
It was once the favorite of my Grandpa who died 36 years ago, then given to Dad as a keepsake from Grandma. When Dad died in '06, I asked for it, and had it altered to a woman's kimono.
Though it looks like a solid color from the distance, the full size detail of the weave is as below.

This is an OOSHIMA TSUMUGI, one of the two most representative Japanese pongees, and the speciality of the region my father comes from.
Closer up, it's a very intricate splash pattern, the threads dyed frist, then hand woven by expert weavers so the dyed and undyed sections make accurate criss-crosses to form the various intricate designs. The threads are dyed with extracts from the Sharinbai tree (Rhaphiolepis indica var. umbellata) and mud.

IOF..I love 'that' dress :)

It is such a festive looking dress, am I right in saying that it is a 'holly' print? And the blend of colours are just wonderful.
Whoever is in charge of your wardrobe and makeup dept's Miss Webster are doing their jobs exceptionally well!!! ;) What a magnificent way to see out the old and in with the New Year, whatever it may hold for you :)

At home New Year's Eve with the cat, watching the 1947 film noir Nightmare Alley. I think it would probably be surprising to know how many of us do not go out on New Year's Eve. It's an evening that has been shorn of its glamor over the years, I fear. Between running into amateurs everywhere you go (unless you've got a really exclusive invitation) to navigating among the drunk drivers on the frequently slushy roads, somehow it just doesn't seem worth it. :)

Also apropos of this subject, it is worth pondering this thought of J.B. Priestley: "One of the delights known to age, and beyond the grasp of youth, is that of Not Going." Priestley's short essay on this subject, in his excellent collection Delight, makes charming reading.

I wore my lounging wear (jimjams, as The Doctor would say). We went over to a friend's house and watched Stranger than Fiction (rather good) and rewatched Snatched (ze Germans!). I really like that movie... :D

Is there anything better than pics of Johanna on New Years morning? I don't think so.

My attire also consists of jammies.

Still waiting on the pics, Pink. ;)

Unfortunately I had to work till 1am last night. One of the casino gals snapped a photo of me drinking coffee and watching the band (boy, they were bad ... I thought disco was dead!), but its not worth posting. Then again, I made nearly $100 in tips ... gotta love drunk hungry folk!

I agree. I just flat like looking at Johanna. Not sure if alot of people look like that in Sweden but she is so different looking from anything here in Texas. lol

Love your peacock brooch Johanna. Happy New Year.
