Thanks girls!
No, not more brown... always looks different in the lighting. SO frustrating!
Here's another shot from the same day,

And Zaika I just saw your bangs a few posts ago, I love em!! I love your new avatar too, ha!

Also, as for snoods and hair nets... they actually used to wear nets woven from human hair, very fine. (You can probably find those on the bay). So really, any net would do I would think.

A while back, someone asked me to post a picture of the wave clip that I used to finger wave my hair in this picture.

The clip has three rows of teeth. the middle row of teeth is spring loaded and the teeth go in the opposite direction of the outer teeth.

Here is the clip closed.

Here is the clip open.

When the clip is opened the teeth grip the hair.

When the clip is closed, the middle section of teeth push the hair into a wave shape.

I got the clip in a bag of old metal perm curlers at a garage sale and I've never been able to find another like it. The clip pushes your hair into the wave, unlike regular wave clips that pinch your hair into a wave. You don't get the pinched ridge in your hair that you tend to get with the normal wave clips.

Thanks! I found the fabric when we were cleaning out my grandma's house. It was a remnant just big enough to make a small set of cafe curtains for my bathroom. The cool thing is, my grandma had made drapes for her house of the same fabric (this was the leftover piece that I found) and I have pictures of my mom as child and her siblings standing in front of the same curtain fabric. My grandma was a packrat (the clean house people would have had a heart attack if they had seen her house) and I found tons of vintage fabric. I can't bring myself to cut up most of it because I'm afraid to mess it up!

I've seen similar clips that pinch your hair, but none like this one that pushes your hair. The pinching ones never work well in my hair, they just seem to make pinched ridges.

At the same garage sale that I got the clip at, I bought a Napco ladies head vase for $12.00. At the time I thought it was an exhorbitant amount, but I just had to have the vase. (Little did I know!) I wish I could travel back in time and buy the rest of the things they had at this garage sale!

Ohairas I LOVE IT!!!! And your dress and shoes are absolutely adorable!! Is that a half track your standing in front of??

I have a question, did ladies in the 40's wear gloves?? like the short ones?? I'm trying to make finishing touches to my 40's outfit and I'm wondering if I need gloves or not. I would want black because my dress is going to be a dark red and I'm wearing black shoes....

Yes, they did. As a matter of fact, gloves were worn into the 50s. I think by the 60s it came out of vogue as the rest of society went through a major upheaval. Although, I remember my grandmother wearing gloves to church through the 1960s.

So, yes, get your black gloves. But you'll soon discover that you need gloves in many more colors...it can be addicting. I know from experience...:)

Thank you BonnieJean!!!! My mom has a great aunt whose name is Totsie :D and she is 84 and still wears her little gloves and hats, she is precious!! I'm sure her gloves are the ones that shes had since the 40's or 50's because the store she told my mom that she got them at has been out of business since before I was born!! hehe :)

Is there any type of particular material that would be appropriate? or does it really matter??

No, there isn't any one particular material that would be appropriate, but that gloves were made in all sorts of materials. They were made in cotton (probably the most common), leather, suede, and satin and several other types of fabric. That's what makes gloves so much fun because they really didn't change a whole lot from decade to decade with the exception of adding some made with new fabrics. Most of mine are probably from the 50s, but I wanted to be able to wear them and not worry about damaging antique ones. Gloves come in all lengths and worn for different occasions. For evening wear the norm was that longer gloves would be worn--above the elbow and opera length. Daytime wear gloves were usually wrist-length or 3/4 length (3/4 of the way between your wrist and elbow). I even have a pair of wrist-length crocheted gloves that look darling with summer dresses. Sometimes gloves had very unique ends where they had decorative 'cut-outs' or fancy stitching or even 2-toned. You can still buy gloves in boutiques and other specialty stores. But I've had my best luck in thrift stores and antique shops.

Google '1940s ladies gloves' and you'll find antique dealers and other websites that can give you an idea of what to look for.

So the sky's the limit on gloves, in my opinion. And you're correct, the gloves make your outfit 'complete'.

Quick!--go to eBay and type in Flapper Hairstyles and you'll see two auctions for similar type of clips. (We're not allowed to post links to active eBay auctions, but typing the above in gets you to them--may have to scroll down a wee bit.)

Has anyone ever heard of the "Spoolie" brand rubber curlers?? I just saw some and wanted to know if anyone had tried them, and if they worked or not.

ALSO, when those of you wear your hair in a snood/hair net, how do you fix your hair before putting the snood/hair net on?? Just curious!! THANKS LADIES!!

I've heard mixed opinions of them, although I've never used them. I bet if you did a search in this forum/thread and type in 'spoolie', you'd come up with a couple discussions on them. I know this question has been asked before.;)

You all need to decide who will buy them and then split the cost and the clips so you all don't drive the price up on each other! ;)
