I am getting so much better with rolls so victory rolls with curls arranged in the middle and the rest in the back down and wavy has been a constant:

This look is so wonderful! The curls are a work of art and your make-up is beautiful, too.

Do you do your own brows? I'd like to do something about mine, but I can't afford to go to a cosmetician regularly, so I'd have to learn to do it myself.

Antje, your beehive is just lovely! I've tried that look once but had problems with the front and sides since I don't have bangs. I envy how easy you make it sound. ;)

Just a couple of photos that have been waiting to be uploaded. I've been getting into a routine of doing some rather simple vintage updos since it's been humid here so I feel like most of the time I am wasting my time trying to get a good set out of curls. :p

I tried finger waves again but this time I set them the night before and slept with the duckbill clips in. For the most part, it worked out, but the one side didn't hold very well when it came to brushing out, which I blame on my sleeping position and the fact that I don't think I had the waves set very well so that noticeable crimp was there while drying.

The back was pinned up low to the nape of the neck.

Wow! These are lovely GIJane! I am envious. I have been wanting to do the first style but I don't have a curling wand nor hot sticks.

Hi everybody! I just joined today. I am a hairdresser with lots of experience doing vintage hairstyles, mainly 1940s sets and 1960s bouffants. Here is me after a pincurl set:

Does anyone know of some easy styles? My girl is beginning to love these looks, but she doesn't want to try them, as she says they look so hard and complicated to do. Any advice to pass on to allow her to try some styles, or just to fully engage into the world of vintage is welcome!

My favorite tutorials to recommend are by a gal known as Cherry Dollface. Her styles are so pretty, and her instructions simple and to the point.

I absolutely will be your stylist! haha. I would be really happy to answer any questions.. It's kind of why I joined! I feel like doing YouTube videos or start a blog or something because while there are definitely a lot of decent tutorials, I haven't found any with a true professional/technical edge

Aww, thanks for all the compliments girls! Really, it's all of you who've been here awhile that really inspire me so I only have you to thank!

I've plucked my brows for over ten years after watching a girl in my basic training unit do hers! I also use a little pencil to define the arches and points. They are still recovering from some overplucking I did a year or so ago :( but at least I can go makeupless and not worry too much about how my brows look. I think if you are confindent enough to do it on your own, go for it! You can buy a dark colored brow pencil and outline the shape you'd like your brows to be before you start any major thinning so you're not having to eyeball and risk lopsided brows when you're done.

Thanks, doll! I don't use hot sticks or an iron...these are results from my wet sets. I'll just brush them out and pile the curls back up on my head and go. It's definitely good for when I have a set fail, then I don't have to worry about droopy curls or sad waves all day. :)

Miss Laurie, your cut looks superb. Love the little roll for your bangs!

Please do! You'd have one follower/subscriber in me already! It'd be great to see that technicality behind a lot of styles.

Dyed my hair. The wind blew it around yesterday, but it was good. Went to Reading WW2 Weekend:

There is nothing I don't like about this picture! I like the red on black, and I love your outfit. And the car. And the whole picture. haha

I got a hair cut for summer! More details on the blog.

It looks lovely. Do your curls do that on their own, or do you have to give them some guidance to get them at just that perfect angle? By guidance, I mean extra curling, obviously you have to comb and such.

Retro_GI_Jane, your rolls and kiss curls are flawless! A job well done! :eusa_clap

MissLaurieMarie, you look great with that length of hair, it really suits you :)

Lately I've been switching between my usual pompadour and a pin curl wave, which has been making me happy:

A big thank you to John Frieda for making a hairspray that will hold my hair in place without turning it into a helmet.
