Thanks Wahine! It helps to live in Florida. We get all the tropical, alligator and flamigo prints. lol I actually found a great one the other day with key limes on it. ;)
Sounds wonderful (although I must admit I'm not sure what a key lime is - a certain kind of lemon?)! I even once lived in Florida for a short period of time, but that was before I was interested in sewing. Otherwise I'd have built quite a fabric stash! :D

Oh lol a key lime is a small tart lime that grows in Florida. Key lime pie is one of my favorites!

yum, sounds wonderful! What I remember best is pumpkin pie and pecan pie - I never had neither one before. And squash! We don't have it here as well. Those might not be typically for Florida, but that's what gave me some of the most intense (positive) memories, speaking of food.
Makes me think of that cute apple print fabric I have in my stash that still waits to be made into something.

This is the comic book fabric dress that I mentioned earlier. I have to say, it looks better in pictures than I feel in it. The upperchest is too big, so I feel like the solid red yoke part is slipping around. It would be easy to fix the next time I make this pattern but not on a finished garment. This is an example of why you should use fabric for your muslin that is similar to your fashion fabric.

SheBear, love the new skirt!
Wahine, I buy all my cute prints online. My local fabric store only carries basic garment fabrics but a lot of quilting fabrics and children's prints. My favorite shop is http://equilter.com/ and they do ship overseas, but it looks pricey.

kamikat, thanks for the link, they seem to have wonderful prints! I don't dare to have a closer look, otherwise I'll fall in love ;)
I did order fabric from overseas before, but I could only afford it because I made a collective order with somebody else. It's pretty expensive to ship anything from the US, it usually doesn't pay. plus, I'd have to go to the customs every time which is quite annoying.

Wahine, I don't know if this helps you, cause this website is in the UK, but I have bought all my printed fabrics from www.fabricland.co.uk. They are a mail order service and I am sure they ship to Germany. In my experience shipping within the EU is not too expensive, certainly nothing like the cost of shipping from the States!

Their website is *awful* and annoying to navigate, but they are a legitimate company and very good too! I have always been thrilled with all the fabrics I've bought from them and their selection of cotton prints is wonderful, plenty of vintage-inspired designs (and most between £3-4 a meter). I found these just browsing:

Watermelons!

Gorgeous blue roses- their selection of florals is amazing:

Darling pink rose design:

Even if those are not to your taste they have so many fabrics to choose from! They are great for cheap haberdashery too! I can definitely recommend them 100%, and not just 'for the price', either- everything I've ordered from them has been top quality and their service is great, in spite of the rubbish website! :D

Wow, they really have some verry nice prints! Love the watermelons and I found a poodle print, I've always been looking for something like that. :bounce:
Thanks a lot for the link, Frenchy!
I will mail them to find out what the shipping would be. Usually it's much cheaper than from the US. My only problem will be that I have no credit card. But that problem should be solvable.

Fantastic! :D so glad you were able to find something! I'm sure you can work something out if you email/call them. Let me know if you do order anything!

kamikat, when I look at the pictures of your wonderful self made clothes, I get the idea to make a flip book of all those pictures (got to say again how much I admire the amount of your output!). you always look so sweet, set up in your living room and your dog playing around.

I have to say I am so surprised by this! There are a few Fabricland shops around her and they carry mostly cheap polycotton and junk. I used to go to Fabricland in Canada and loved it, but have found the ones in the UK far inferior to the point of not even going in any more. Maybe I'll have to try their website...
For what it's worth, I always love going fabric shopping in Germany - the quality seems so much higher and they have great sales.

Well, I suppose it depends what you're used to, and they do have a lot of tat, but as I said, everything I've ordered from their website has been great. Some of the supposedly 'heavier' fabrics that I've had samples of have not been up to scratch - their 'heavy jersey' was very thin and I ended up going here instead- but for printed cottons at least they are brilliant. Every fabric I've bought has sewn and washed perfectly. To be fair, I have no experience of the shops, and I am just starting out with sewing, so I don't have a huge amount of experience, but I think you can tell straightaway if something is genuinely poor quality. Plus, my Mum has been sewing for 40 years and she was amazed at the quality of the fabric.

They really are brilliant for haberdashery too, especially if, like me, you don't have anywhere near you that offers a wide selection at low prices. For things like seam binding, fasteners, ribbon, et cetera, they are half the price compared to my local shops, even with the delivery cost.

Don't let the low prices and awful website put you off- I should mention that I have seen some of their floral fabrics on offer on eBay, rebranded as 'retro style', selling for much more, so it just goes to show what good marketing can do!

Fabricland already sent an answer to my mail. It was quick, but not very polite (not rude, either - it's just that I'm not used to getting mails without even a "Hello" as a start). I must say that I'm surprised about the shipping cost they told me. It's much more than I expected, £20.00! When I ordered things like clothing from ebay UK, it was usually way cheaper. Fabricland would charge an additional sum if I want to pay per bank transfer. I might try to find friends to get a collective order, but otherwise, I probably won't order. It doesn't seem to make sense since I'd probably order just a few meters :(

Wow! That's a lot. Their UK shipping is always very reasonable.

Well, I'm sorry about that, sorry to have gotten your hopes up :( and about the tone of the email, they are always a bit curt on the phone, but I suppose they must get 100s of phone calls a day, and it can't be the most exciting job...

Better luck elsewhere! :)

Really nice! And so cool to see the variations in look due to the fabric being used. The brown and cream ones, is that linen?
