Thanks!
Miss Sis, I'm pretty much just a seamstress and don't do much else! lol I've only got a few cats and a roomie, so I just spend a lot of my free time making things :)
Kitty, how cool! I'd love to see it!

I think it will work out well. Im thinking about green accent pieces (gloves, clutch and such).

We will see :)

I also made this 30s evening frock from an original pattern a while ago but think I will ressurrect it (when I can fit into it again ha ha) The fabric is original that I found at a junk sale!

Oh, SO cute!!! I just adore the stripey one, and the one you made looks JUST like an original! It's amazing how similar our dresses look!

I'm making Butterick 4790 and it isn't going all that well. I cut the neck too low I think, and the shoulders slide off a bit. And I think the top is too big, though I used what my measurements are... :( I have some ideas to make it fit better, I just hope they work. I already put the tape on the neck, I really don't want to have to pick out all those stitches and take it of. And it looks like an apron! Bleah.

Ooh now I'm scared. I'm making this one right now too!

Maybe try taking in the front and back darts? I have a lot of problems with things sliding off my sloped shoulders, so I use fashion tape to keep them up. That might be the easiest way for you to fix that problem!

Did you cut the neck as the pattern called for, or did you lower it as Goldwyn Girl did? The pattern picture doesn't look bad, but I know when Pink Dahlia made this dress, the neckline came out higher than the pattern design and Goldwyn Girl lowered it when she made this dress. I'm hoping it works out OK for me because I'm not really experienced enough to be able to modify a pattern like that so that it works for me!

I'm just finishing up this dress too (I just have to hem that massive skirt). I agree, this is an odd dress in some ways--it seems huge on the hanger and it seemed big when I was assembling it, but after the tape was sewn on and I added the buttons it magically seemed fine. I didn't alter the neckline--since this is the first time I've made it I thought I'd "follow the recipe" so to speak.

How does the neckline fall on you?

The neckline follows my collarbone almost exactly KittyT. I'll be interested to see if it pulls when I wear it (it hasn't while I've been moving in front of the mirror). The skirt seems heavy because it's so huge, but maybe I'm just not used to the '50's styles. Let me know how yours works out!

I hate it when the pattern picture and the result look different! The pattern drawing shows a lower neckline. I think I'm going to have to try lowering the neckline after I get it together and see how it falls.

What did you make yours out of? I'm using a lightweight cotton/poly broadcloth, so hopefully it won't be too heavy!

I lowered it, but I don't know how GG did it. I just cut down from where the pattern's shoulders. I didn't enlarge the shoulder part.

Also the shoulder seams and the "horizontal" darts for the bust don't line up on me. If one is right the other is off. :p

Mine is out of quilting cotton. I liked the pattern. :) But I read on other blogs a heavier fabric than that what I got, like the kind you have, is good. So you should be fine.

Great you guys, I bought that wrap pattern because it looked so easy and I haven't much sewing experience!
Here are some more reviews of the pattern,

I like this girl's fabric, http://www.flickr.com/photos/41296752@N00/423735817/in/set-72157594532963245/
I think Goldwyn had lowered her's in a V, right? I can't find it now Gold... But that's what this girl did too, and that's how I want mine. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/nicegirl512/4790-1.jpg
