Show or Tell your 'TOP TEN' Hats

I don't have much to show as far as my top ten hats go. Mostly all I have are the conversions I did. (Since I can't afford to buy an actual vintage hat, I have to make my own version of one). Here's a Biltmore Western that started out as a size 6 3/4. I sized it up to a 7 1/4 on a block that fellow Lounger, Rockwater, made for me. I also reworked the finish and gave it a brushed velvet look and feel. As with most of my conversions, it sports a tall straight crown with a 2 3/4 snap brim. I was also able to find a black 1 1/2 ribbon and bow that came off of a vintage hat to put on it.

I think that's a wonderful example of your skills, Terry. And certainly as good or even better as any vintage hat that can be bought. You have the knowledge and satisfaction that you have made that hat yourself; what could top that?

Hey Stefan:
Your “wow” comment really made me smile. I thought it was just me that does that. I feel what you mean when you pick up certain hats and just “wow” comes out of your mouth then “and i get to wear this”!!
I have a few that i just can’t wear cause i can’t get past “wow”.
Totally get it!

Two more from my top ten. Both are conversions I did.

This one's a 7X Quality Bradford Western that I took apart and converted to a thin ribbon Strat clone. I reused some matching 3/8 ribbon and bow work that I scavanged off of a junk OR and I also bound the brim with another piece of thin ribbon that I had. Since I like thin ribbons I would say that this one probably rates first place to being my personal favorite. It has a medium tall crown with a bound 2 5/8 wide snap brim

This next one I converted made the most dramatic transformation....and I even reworked the finish into a Longhair. It started off as a size 6 3/4 Resistol Stagecoach. I blocked it up to a 7 1/4 to fit me and bound the brim and sewed on a contrasting 1 1/2 dark brown ribbon. This one sports a tall straight crown with a bound 2 5/8 wide snap brim for a Whippet / Stetsonian look.

Great work Terry especially the work you did on the Stagecoach.

Some hats didn't make my final cut only because I don't wear them often enough or they are already well represented on the list:

1920's Stetson Excellent Quality Exhibition Homburg
2 - 1960's Stetson 3X Open Roads
2 - 1989 Kevin O'Farrell Natural Beavers
1990's Ritch Rand Natural Beaver
American Hat Company 3X Clear Beaver
Vintage Silhouettes
That is a great collection Jack. Each one outstanding.

That's a beautiful selection, Jack. Some wonderful quality on display there. I find myself drawn to the more European styled hats among them, like the Gannon and the Black Sheep, but that's to be expected.

Been working on this for a while now. In my mind I started my Top Ten list with ~21 hats, actually photographed 20 & cut my final list of both vintage & custom hats to 15. Couldn't seem to get down to 10 fairly. Posted in groups it becomes obvious to the styles I like. In no particular order:

Outstanding all around Jack!!
You ARE the King of the Open Road style!
Gotta say that Stetson No.1 really does it for me!

No particular order here and I'm a little late to the party on this thread, but maybe this will give it a jump start for others.

Are they in order of preference?

Your #5, Royal Stetson looks similar to the one I wore today. One of my favorites, too.
