thanx!!! my steel gray from last year was just too stingy for my taste-2 3/8 all around. that may not seem like it is stingy to alot of you guys, however, i believe that if you are going to wear a hat with a brim, wear a hat with a brim.
none of that 1 1/4 inch stuff for me, thanx

I just received my Jaxon Monk with a 2 1/4 inch brim, and that borders on being to wide for my taste. 2 " is about perfect to me. I have several wide brim fedoras that rarely get worn.

Excellent Porkpies!

D.W., I think you nailed the Popeye Doyle block. Great looking porkpie!

bruce wayne, That "yancy" from Optimo is a beauty. I really like the backbow treatment.

Most excellent pies, guys. :eusa_clap

The Yancey is a beauty, Bruce. Was it named after the famous Chicago blues pianist, Jimmy Yancey?

By the way, I ran across this cool article about the porkpie online that was originally printed in 1935, here is the link...

Great article Viper Man! I already knew the part about the bakers in England, and how the name came about, but I didn't realize porkpies had been around that long.

As I had mentioned on this thread before about wanting a pork pie ever since seeing The French Connection, I decided to buy a couple. Both Jaxon's, the Monk fur felt in gray, and the wool in black. I like both hats and will post pics of them later, but they didn't seem to satisify my urge to have a brown one with the unique pinch of the one worn by Gene Hackman in the movie. I had just received a vintage brown Champ fedora I had won on e-bay. The hat was the same color as Popeye's and has a 2 inch brim. I decided to go for it and create my own Popeye Doyle. Let me know what you think.

This is the what the hat did look like.

Here is a photo of Gene Hackman from the movie.

And here is my version of the hat.

That looks pretty darn good!! I ordered a custom black four point porkpie (the type worn by Popeye Doyle) from the Custom Hatter here in Buffalo. It should be ready next week at the latest. I can't wait!!!

Hello,
After monthes of starving in France where I thought that we have no hat-maker anymore I've found THE ONE I needed.
Former manager of Gelot (Lanvin) he is the creator of DBM. He only makes mesure hats and cap.

He made this pork-pie for a member of my forum.
