Well, it is wool and cashmere, which give it a warm and fuzzy look. The polyester lining isn't going to keep you any warmer, but I doubt that really matters.

Found two nice '60s ones today, both very traditional on the outside with crazy linings inside. Both have 1949 union tags.

This jacket doesn't appear to have any lapel buttonholes, so you could probably have the lapels narrowed. Beautiful fabric regardless.

For goodness sake, NOOOOOOO! Keep the lapels wide!!! Short "stingy" brims on hats, skinny ties, thin lapels, all inferior to the style and class that exudes from this garment in its present form!

1957. Nice cloth and construction. Even with "Savile Row" and "Queensbury"- I think it may be Canadian made- but I could be wrong. Anyone have insight?

Palm Beach Jacket

I found this Palm Beach jacket at a thrift store when I was in San Francisco in March. SB with two buttons and center vent. The fabric is the original Palm Beach fabric and is just wonderful in summer! It cost me 11 bucks and is in great shape. I had the sides taken in a little and the cuffs let out. It'a Union made 43 long. The Union tag says copyright 1949 but I guess that's not the year of manufacture, right?

Probably mid- late '60s, past the point where "Palm Beach" switched from being a fabric to a brand.

I'd guess it's still 50s. It seems to be the genuine fabric. Funny enough, I found a 1937 suit in a different store that's also by Harris & Frank.

The pockets, lapels, lining, label and vent all say '60s to me.
Palm Beach cloth stopped being produced in 1954/1955, and had a different texture.
That union tag was used until 1968 or a bit after.

Hm. I'm no expert at that. I looked up the Palm Beach thread and it certainly seems to be after 1954/55. The fabrics still great for warm weather and I like the look a lot.

Note the length of that vent. It's much, much longer than you'd usually expect to see on a 50s jacket (or even one from the early 60s, for that matter). Everything about that jacket says late 60's or early 70s to me.

The Union Tag alone dates this jacket no earlier than 1962, the R in the circle is the hint for that. Another big '60s thing I noticed are the 2 buttons on each cuff. This did exist on suits/jackets before the '60s but I noticed it was most common in the '60s-early '70s. Still a very nice sporty jacket.
