A beautiful brown sportscoat! I spent a large part of Saturday looking in vain for such a three-button tweed sportscoat in NYC, with no luck.
Brooks Bros had only one three-button to offer, and it was not a good color. No place else I tried even had a three-button coat on offer, tweed or not (Century 21, Syms, Lord & Taylor, Orvis). Orvis has a couple of good ones online, but nothing on display in Manhattan. I should try Jos. A. Banks, I guess, or just get myself to the vintage shops to try to find a nice one like the Baron....

This one need(s)(ed) a lot of work. I've re-attached the breast pocket and fixed up the vent/re-attached the vent lining so that it's wearable without the vent splaying open in vulgar ways. It still needs some arm linings, and a bit of work to re-attach the front panel liners. But all in all a very fine jacket; that grand old rough 30s tweed. Quite heavy and very warm in this cold-ish spell we're having in the UK.

Given that the roots of the blazer are nautical, the use of scrimshaw seems perfectly cromulent. I too would be interested in seeing photos.

I couldn't resist this one even afer telling myself that I don't need another vintage sportcoat. It was that great windowpane pattern in the fabric. Photos of the overall outfit will follow once I receive the darn thing and have it dry cleaned but here is the teaser. It's supposed to date to the late 1940s-early 1950s?

I probably wouldn't have resisted, either. Love the windowpane pattern. Yeah, looks late-'40s/early-'50s; I've got a similarly-styled one in black and red (was my father's).

My better half was doing some goodwill browsing and brought this home for me. Unfortunately it's a bit too large in the chest. Check out those wide lapels and deep deep vents though. Feels like it's fully canvassed too.

Picked this sportcoat up recently. Has the 1949 union tag and the style looks 1949-1955ish. An added plus for me is that the label says it was origionally sold in Brooklyn, my hometown.

Found this today in the women's section at Goodwill (employees always mix up men's and women's suits/jackets!). Has a second version 1949 union tag, I'm thinking it dates from the late 1960s. Fits great, I need to lengthen the arms. I'm not usually a fan of double vents but this works. Made of worsted wool, also has a deep red lining.

I am VERY partial to a nice sport coat, particularly the late '40s/early '50s no-vent, patch pocket, generous lapel variety. I'll start with this one:

A nicely-textured rust colored jacket with a nice herringbone weave.

I'm having a tough time photographing the color of this one; it's one of my favorites. Gorgeous maroon gab dated 1949. Not as pink/purple as it looks in photos.
