Unless you did a lot of riding in your younger days to fall back on it will be tougher to master than you think. Of course you're somewhat away from big city traffic aren't you? It's better on secondary roads with mild traffic. Keep it subdued and you ought to be OK.[huh]

I've totally noticed a resurgence of "vintage" looking cycles, they are fantastic looking. A friend of mine just got a Triumph. Is it because gas is so expensive? I would be too chicken to take one on the highway.

When I was ready to get a new bike I looked at the Sportster and it just wasn't big enough for me (6' 200lbs). The peanut tank was another issue with the bike (too small for the kind of riding I do). I ended up getting a Honda VTX 1300 retro and couldn't be happier with my choice. Of course I added a lot of accessories - an acute case of Chrome Disease. ;) Last year a guy followed me over 20 miles just so he could ask what kind of bike it was. Look around and make sure you're gonna get one that you can grow into. If it's been awhile since you've rode, take a motorcycle safety course. That's gonna be your best investment. I'd post a pic of my bike, but don't have any place to store it. Keep the rubber side down!

The key to me was I didn't want to be taller, sitting on the bike, than it was long. On the Sportster (at 6'2" and 200) that would have been the case.

The old "monkey molesting a coconut" problem.

If I don't go Fatboy next time (and it will take some doing to go American) I'm going Triumph Rocket.

You lot have been great!...

I'm 5'11" and about 170. I've sat on this machine and I look great on it (or, it looks great under me!). I guess my attraction is to the asthetics of this bike. I've been a Sportster fan since the "Bronson" days. The best I could do back then was a series of Honda's.

I'm not keen on big 'Hogs' so I feel that this size and shape are fine for me. As far as Sportster's go, there been quite a refinement over the years - the belt drive is said to soften the ride a bit.

I appreciate all this input and feedback - and interest! I'll keep you posted on the prognosis of this ailment!

Cheers!

I've always been mostly a Honda guy, with my Blackbird, Valkyrie and RC51.
Still, the thought of a Harley re-surfaces every now and then. Mostly now.
Do it, and I'll do it too !!

This is the newest bug I've caught and I haven't been able to quell the fever. I present for your edification the new Harley-Davidson "Nightster". This is designed to have retro look of the late fifties - early sixties with the black paint, bobbed fenders, front fork gaiters and spoked wheels. You can just picture James Dean on this thing! The question is; Can you picture me on it? I bought the helmet so I'm half-way there already! What say ye fellow FL'rs? -dixon cannon

All else aside, you have to admit that is a very pretty machine! Yes,no?

GO FOR IT, DIXIE CANON. You only live once. It's a very cool bike, and if i could afford the DKK 190,000.- (USD 36,500.-) it sells for here in Denmark i would buy one immediately.
