Original Flightjacket have just released a very nice shawl collar cardigan in collaboration with Peter Scott Knitwear. I've handled it myself last week and I was really impressed by the fit, weight and softness of the wool. No wonder, as it's a pure merino/cashmere blend. Really densly knitted as well.

I don't know, he looks pretty cool to me.

It's a pity it not a full length shot: he's wearing knee high lace up motorcycle boots and leather trousers!

Heh. Yes, he does there.... I was thinking more about how he aged....

;)

I'd definitely dress like him in he first photo, though!

I remember, as a very small boy, watching my first episode of Last of the Summer Wine, not really understanding the title and thinking "Glad it's the last episode of this rubbish". Oh how wrong was I...

Just found this pic recently online of a very young Babe Ruth wearing a Shawl Collar warm up sweater. This is the skinniest I have ever seen him. I wish Mitchell & Ness still made reproduction sweaters like this as they did in the mid 90's. They were a bit pricey at $700, but were all handmade and were only made in limited quantities of 25-30.

Here's a link to some photos of all the Reproduction Early Baseball Shawl Collar warm up sweaters that Mitchell and Ness once made.

Thanks for this thread. I have to say, generally I'm not a big fan of shawl collars -they look deceptively simple yet at the same time easy to screw up- but especially in the case of the shawl collar cardigan manufactured by Schott and sold by Original Flightjackets, it really works to perfection and looks stunning. Matter of fact, I'm going to order one. Some of their vests also look very tempting, damn this site and its effect on my wallet :D

What i'd like to post for your consideration are some products manufactured by G.R.P.; they're a small company based in Italy, little known and imo underappreciated in Europe but I own several of their pieces (they have a small but dedicated club of followers) and can testify as to the quality of their products. Some of their designs are modern but the knitwear is quite timeless. And they're deeply discounted at the moment, I usually purchase during sales periods, the advantage of not picking the flavour of the month.

Don't know how to post pictures but here are some items, I own the shawl collar cardigan and it's superb:

And some modern designs but of equally good quality (made of cotton) on sale here:

One word of warning: they're an Italian brand and design their pieces for the archetypical Italian who doesn't live in a pizza or fast food joint (slim build) and work best on that body type. If you're between two sizes, order one up or it won't fit properly.

I have an Inverallan 6A on the way from Scotland in the next few weeks. I already have a crewneck and a 3A (button up sweater) from Inverallan and the quality is unbelieveable. It feels bullet proof, very thick and heavy. Actually, Inverallan can no longer use their own name (some legal issue), but still makes the sweaters - each one knit by a single person. You can contact them via e-mail and buy the 6A (as below in the link) for 135 pounds + shipping. You choose your color and they make it to order in 12-14 weeks. I ordered one in a medium gray called Bracken and they happened to have it in stock. They run very slim and require that you size up one. I'm a 40 and wear a 42 in Inverallan. PM me if you'd like the e-mail.

I'll second Grayland on the quality of Inverallans. They are, quite simply, amazing sweaters. I have more than I should, truth be told.

You also might want to check out End Clothing, too, another UK-based retailer.
