Setting lotion allergy???

I realise this probably sounds a little odd, but when I use setting lotion the end of my tongue tingles, like I’ve eaten something that was too hot & burned my mouth. I’m not allergic to any other hair products, so am wondering if I’ve just developed a bizarre aversion to setting lotion. Has anyone else experienced anything similar, and if so, can you recommend anything like setting lotion that won’t have this funny effect? It only happens when I use the setting lotion!! [huh]

perhaps try a different brand - also, I tend not to take it right to my scalp as it makes my scalp itchy (it was absolute murder last time I got my roots done as the setting lotion combined with bleach combined with PMT was terrible)

I try not to put it on my scalp. I'm just a sensitive little ting obviously lol

Things are never easy! I guess it's my own silly fault for going with the cheapest I could find (£1.50 compared to £2.99).

Still smells good though. I smell like my nan.

The things we go through to look beautiful.

Silly question, but you're not holding the grips in your mouth whilst you roll or anything are you?
Might be residue of the setting lotion on them?

It's the kind of thing I do...:eusa_doh:

Try a different setting lotion. If that doesn't work, try some of the alternatives mentioned in the setting lotion thread here. You can make your own out of flax seeds and there are other alternatives like sugar water and flat beer.

It happens almost straight after I put it on! Probably just breathing fumes or something!

I may try flat beer, then I can pretend I'm a young lush lol

I've heard of sugar water being used. Perhaps I should just stick to my mega mega hold hairspray. Mmmm crispy head

My mom says they used to use sugar water when she was growing up, and then it'd just brush out. Somehow I'm still skeptical though :)

I use flax seed setting lotion. If you get the consistency right when you're boiling it, it works brilliantly. And you can add scented oils to it to make it smell nice too. No bad smell, and no stickiness :)

You just gave me an instant flashback to 1984, when I used either 7-UP or sugar water to keep my spikes pointed upward. Brushing it out at the end of the day merely created a cloud of powdered sugar...and the fallout from the spray bottle bonded to the bathroom floor, attracting about a million ants. Not recommended!

You could always use beer!! I've read it mentioned a few times in vintage hair dressing books and magazines. It's supposed to not have a smell when you wear it.[huh]

Like I don't make enough mess in the bathroom as it is!

See now I would be quite happy to try this, but I miss beer, I can't drink it because I have a silly tummy but sometimes I really do fancy it, you know. I fear I would just drink it, regardless of any nasty after effects it may have. And you'd be responsible
