Saw a very nice Schott Bros G-1, circa 1998, on eBay. Was just wondering what the "collective" thought of the newer Schott jackets? I have read one post that said that he was considering one as a "beater." Are they really that bad, or does it depend. The 1998 E series is definitely a cowhide jacket, but it does appear to have some "character." Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Cheers,
Mike

I own 2 recent Schotts - cafe racers. They are as well crafted as the Aero I had and the Johnson Leathers I still own. That said Schott's website is bad the sizing is odd and the quality does vary. Depends on the jacket. My 641XX is one of the best quality jackets I have owned.

I didn't have a Schott, but I recall guys having these in the squadron. They're decent jackets for the period. I'd say that they are better than the later Pharrs we were talking about previously.

He's not exactly giving it away. Is it an issue jacket that you are looking for particularly? I wish I was certain what my first issued jacket was...it was really pretty nice quality and had comparatively nice leather.

That vendor certainly has a lot of stock and some of it quite interesting too. Personally I wouldn't want to pay anything like the $$$ being asked for that Schott G-1 & have paid less for much earlier goatskin issued jackets.

Vendor seems to talk a lot of Service Personnel into parting with their jackets :)

I've seen that vendors listing before. He sure does have a lot of leather military jackets. And he charges way more than they're worth. His Cooper A-2s run around $230 for a used jacket. Those seem to have a market value closer to $140. I imagine he's overcharging this G-1 as well.

Yep big prices! Even if I could negotiate him down a bit on some items...adding shipping and import tax for the UK would render things prohibitively expensive.
