If you hadn't told me that was Clara Bow, I don't think I would have recognized her! Only her eyes are the same. I think she sounds a lot like Jean Harlow.

You Only Live Once (1937) with Henry Fonda and Sylvia Sidney. Hmmm.... this movie was well acted, but it just made me mad. It's definitely not a happy movie, but worth watching at least once.


The Richest Girl in the World (1934) with Miriam Hopkins, Fay Wray and Joel McCrea. A very cute, although sometimes frustrating romantic comedy

Rue, hope it's ok to post a link to a more recent film set in the golden era. Here's one I've always liked.

City Heat

It stars Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood. It's kinda like Dirty Harry does comedy.

Three dramas:

Merrily We Go To Hell (1932) with Fredric March and Sylvia Sidney. I have mixed feelings about this one, but Sylvia Sidney is so wonderful it's worth watching.

Born to Be Bad (1934) with Loretta Young and Cary Grant. Sad but worth watching.

Βlοחde Veחυs (1932) with Marlene Dietrich and Cary Grant. Marlene is gorgeous in this, even in rags.

Three very cute movies:

The Moon's Our Home (1936) with Margaret Sullavan and Henry Fonda.

More Than a Secretary (1936) with Jean Arthur and George Brent.

The Impatient Years (1944) with Jean Arthur and Lee Bowman.

Three comedies:

Café Metropole (1937) with Loretta Young and Tyrone Power. These two are great in every movie they star in together.

The Lady Is Willing (1942) with Marlene Dietrich and Fred MacMurray. Dietrich is darling in this.

The Awful Truth (1937) with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. This is the movie that is said to have made Cary Grant a star. One of my new favorites


Anyone have any comments on any of the movies so far?

The Awful Truth is superb! My Favourite Wife is another great one in a similar vein. Love Cary Grant
