Roxford hats

Tried to search the site, but not much info on this brand. Just acquired a Roxford. 2" black grosgrain ribbon, 1 3/4" brim. I am guessing 60's on this one. Any info on the hat brand would be appreciated. Cheers.

There's very little information about the brand out there. It was originally a brand of Knox Hats. The trademark crest Knox filed in 1905 looks almost exactly like that in the liner tip of your hat. I don't know how long Knox maintained the brand. It appears to be a mid-tier hat line for them in the early-1900s. The brand came with Knox when they were acquired by Cavanagh/Dobbs in 1932 to form Hat Corporation of America. The trademark is listed in 1949 as belonging to Hat Corp. They don't appear to have done much with the brand until the 1960s, as those are the only (and few) examples we've seen. As far as I can remember, no early examples have turned up.

Very interesting. Thank you for the information, Brad! The felt on this one seems real nice. It looks brown in the above pics, but it is an olive green with a forest green liner. This pic shows the color better:

Thank you Richard. I am not a huge fan of a stingy brim, but this hat has a great felt feel to it, and I really like the color. Plus, it doesn't look half bad on! :p

Again, the color doesn't really show well in the photo.

Saw a Roxford hat box today in an antique store. It had the Knox "Moveo et Proficio" legend on it.

It was a good price, but can't recall exactly (I bought a two hat Knox box for $10.00) PM me if you want me to go back for it...

It looks good on. I wouldn't want a collection solely made up of stingies, but a good stingy makes a nice change.

Here's the one I grabbed for you today. Looks like 1930's to me, but I'm no expert. It's in pretty good shape, only $20.00. It needs maybe a little tape or glue at one spot in the base. I suggest hot glue & will do it if you want. PM your address if you want the box, and let me know if you want me to glue it.

Funny. I had to look for it too, but knew it was there because it had popped up in a search. Mailbox clear, btw. Will try to box your box today & send tomorrow. Want me to glue it, or do you want to assess?

No problem. I would tape it, but can't find good paper packing tape anymore. I'll glue it artfully, as if it were mine, to make sure it endures shipping OK.

Bump, with an update on quality paper tape for fixing hat boxes & taping sweatbands.

Zoiks & Zounds if I didn't stumble across the good stuff at U-Haul!
