Rorschach of Watchmen fame. Movie Fedora?

In the original drawings, Rorschach's suit / trenchcoat and hat all looked to me like an 80s take on the 40s look, as if someone had made an attempt to recreate a Bogie look from what was available in the shops at the time. Actually, the trechcoat he wore is very Bogie in that it cuts off just on the top of the knee - a few inches shorter than the norm (I'm sure I read Bogies were deliberately tailored that way to give him the illusion of greater height in the coat).

I had had the hat down as a Fedora with a stingy brim - a cut-down Federation would be ideal. Seeing those photos from behind, where the film-hat's top is visible, it definitely has a porkpie-style telescopic crown. The narrow Brim also says pp to me - actually, the pp look with a wide ribbon and front dents is pure Sinatra to my eyes. My Akubra Rap (Akubra's own PP design), which I have to hand, is fairly close were it to be in their dark brown (as opposed to black), though a [slightly[/i] lower crown than the one in your photos, and with a bound, not raw, edge. The ribbon is also a little narrower, if I'm being uber-picky. Seems to me that if your really want ot get as accurate as possible from a new hat, a trimmed-brim and appropriately-bashed Federation in Dark Brown (possibly with a wider ribbon) is the closest you'll get without getting into a custom lid.

I've loved Rorschach's costume ever since I first discovered Watchmen - it was very nearly this Halloween's option, but I was so keen to do a Baseball Fury and U ran out of events to fit the extra costume! Thinking of attending an early screening of Watchmen in costume, though.... :)

Keep your eye out on eBay. Though this hat is not an exact replica of what you're looking for, you can probably find something close enough, at a very reasonable price. I got this one for less than $40, including shipping.

Texas Hatters

I managed to find the Texas Hatters website here:

http://www.texashatters.com/styles.php

But I kept getting errors when trying to access certain pages. Apparently, the site is very much under construction.

Undaunted, I called them up on phone with the numbers conveniently provided on the site. Spoke with a young lady (I forget her name) and was informed that YES, they did indeed make hats for the Watchmen movie, specifically Rorschach! (At this point I am giddy with excitement!) She proceeds to tell me I can purchase one over the phone now. I forget the price she told me, but it was high enough to make my heart stop for a few seconds. Yikes! Seemed a bit much, but I am a noob. I've come this far, I'm still willing to consider it. I ask about the website (I'd reeeeeally like to see some good pics of it first) and she tells me it will be awhile before construction is finished and she didn't know when that would be. I interpreted this to mean "forever." ugh. It sounds like I will have to wait while eating rice and ramen noodles for a few weeks to save up. Or take a road trip down to Austin to check it out in person... Or (more likely) find a something cheaper and similar elsewhere.

I'll keep y'all apprised of the situation as warranted.

Here is Art's hat...and me. It is not the "The Rorschach"...just a similar hat done by a master.
