Hey guys and gals...love this style. Where can one find current happenings in the Rockabilly scene? Being from Southeast, Ky....I'm almost cutoff from all things vintage and retro. I have to go out of town just to breathe, if you know what I mean.

I'll agree with you on that one. I was a little disappointed too.

I'm listening to Mac Curits and Johnny Burnette alot at the moment. Both good for banishing the winter blues!

Please watch all 6 chapters of this:

It's amazing that this documentary is from 30 years ago!

Thanks for that link. Very interesting peek at the scene at that time. It was quite funny to hear the dislike of the Stray Cats when London is where they made their name.

I wonder how many of those kids in the video still dress like that today.

This is sort of a companion website to all those UK Teddy Boys & Girls.

Not exactly Rockabilly, but you'll dig this just the same:

More amazingness from JD:

Wolf Teeth. Sounds like a psycho Creedence Clearwater Revival

A Gentle Awakening. Not many "rockabilly" guys could do a song like this.

Even though this "Signs And Signifiers" came out in 2010, it's my pick for the best album of 2011.

Thanks for bringing JD to my/our attention, flat-top. Never heard of the guy before, but after seeing/hearing your links, i have just ordered the album. I think it is also my pick for the best album of 2011.

I'm one of those vintage-y people whose heart belongs to the 20s-40s, but every now and again I like to dip my toes in the rockabilly pool! I actively listen to the music all the time, since it is one of the dominant genres in my iPod. But I don't always dress the part unless I get that "rockabilly urge" and that usually happens because I've had a dream, or I'll see something that sets it off, or I'll become nostalgic for 1998-2001 (when I was full-time "rockabilly"!)

Some bands I like:

Toini & The Tomcats
Miss Mary Ann (anything she has done)
The Casey Sisters & The Salt Flat Stompers
Gene Vincent
Road Kings
Kim Lenz
Amazing Royal Crowns
Janis Martin
Gina & The Rockin' Rebels
Any band Tim Polecat has been in
7 Shot Screamers
Rockin Bonnie & Her Rot Gut Shots
Josie Kreuzer
The Hot Rod Trio
Johnny Horton
Marti Brom
Kitty, Daisy & Lewis
Restless
Matchbox
Rosie Flores
The Starkweather Boys
Deke Dickerson
Rev Horton Heat (only some of his stuff, the rest is gross)

More, but these are on the top of my head right now. Yes, I prefer neo-rockabilly to "the real thing." I don't know why and I make no apologies for it :D

I'm chiming in with another thank you. Wow... it's been a long time since a singer's voice grabbed my heart in that absolute best way, like a heart whammy when you unexpectedly see someone you've had a crush on.

Will be buying his album.

eta- Bought! Amazon has it, album in mp3 was only $8.99.
