Hi girls, since we started a conversation about some ebay sellers' business practices (good and bad), tendencies, fabulous items, etc. in the Purchases thread, I thought I would create a thread where all these conversations about sellers belong.

Please, in keeping with the spirit of the Lounge, let's try to keep it all business and not get too personal about our criticisms! There's a lot of us gals here now and you know how it is when we all get on a roll...lol

So, I wanted to report on the yellow dress I posted that generated so much controversy.

The dress is gorgeous. The label is NOT re-sewn; it does appeal to be an original Suzy Perette. The description mentions "a few pea sized spots," and there are some, in particular in one spot on the dress which would have been nice to have seen a close up of. Additionally, near those spots there are some stresses in the fabric that aren't holes but aren't perfect either. These were not mentioned in any way. Finally, the lining is very delicate and is just starting to crumble in some places. Also not mentioned.

However, I am going to keep the dress because it's GORGEOUS and looks like it was MADE FOR ME. So, be warned: she may miss flaws but darn are her threads fab!

Question for bartenders: is it acceptable to mention the names of the sellers on thee Bay since some of our comments will be negative?

I'm so glad you like you're dress, Bella! :eusa_clap I kept mine for the same reasons - the type of dresses this seller has are hard to find... flawless ones almost impossible, so there's not much choice in the matter [huh]

I would just like to throw my 2 cents in though FL can do what they would like with this issue.
I help moderate a forum on AuctionBytes and have for quite awhile and have been on 5 different antique malls.
It has just been my experience from dealing with Tias which is the oldest mall online that mentioning any names negatively is a slippery slope and leaves one open to legal issues.
Even as dealers we had to have a private seperate from the mall list of buyers who had been NPB, hot check writers etc.
I would think it would be the same and have even seen newscast about how people are taking more action in cases along these lines.
Ebay IMHO should flat state you transact at your own risk. Truthfully.
I have sold on ebay and still do every now and then and have 100% feedback but there are risks. Period.
Hope this does not offend anyone. Just trying to help.

Exactly...I can live with it, and it is beautiful.

Not offended at all! In fact it's extremely useful to have someone around with firsthand knowledge!

I have had excellent service from numerous ebay sellers. As soon as we get the OK from the bartenders I would love to tell you their store names.
Actually, I have only had a couple of problems in the 10 or so years that I have been buying off ebay. All of them were complete accidents were remedied rather quickly and quite well. All the sellers that I dealt with in regards to these problems were very helpful, and I ended up leaving positive feedback for all, except one. I won a beautiful Edwardian dress last year. I was so thrilled for it was my size at the time a 27 waist, and that size and above are often difficult to find from that era. Also, I won it for $35. But I never received the dress. After I contacted the seller numerous times I finally heard back from her. Although I paid for insurance on the dress, she said I had not. I sent her a copy of my detailed paypal payment. It took her over a week to get back to me. She said she didn't realize that I had paid for insurance, and didn't insure the package. The dress was lost. I put in a complain with Ebay, and after over 2 months of dealing with this woman I finally got my money back. She is the only person I have ever left negative feedback for. She didn't bother leaving me feedback in return. I think she knew that if she did I would take the opportunity to defend myself and really spill the beans about what happened. I have a feeling she saw how much other Edwardian dresses were going for on ebay. She was a vintage dealer but only dealt with 50's and 60's. I think she decided after I had won the item that she didn't want to let it go. Turns out I was right, about 8 months later the dress was on ebay again for a very high reserve:rage:

I also bought a very cute cherry necklace from a seller. I paid for it but never got it. A few weeks after I paid I get a note saying that I had a "not going through with the transaction" from ebay. She didn't even bother to tell me herself that after I won the necklace she couldn't find it. I wish she would have just told me before she opened up a dispute. Luckily ebay didn't report the dispute. I found out later that the same seller did this to Jitterbugdoll:(

As for the seller that started all of this. I have contacted her 4 times since I won the dress from her. I need an invoice so I can know how much to pay for shipping. It has been 5 days since I won the dress and still no word from her. I'm the type of person who doesn't like to have unpaid items. I pay for my wins immediately, unless the seller has another auction that I am interested in that is ending on another day. In that case I notify the seller immediately to ask them if it is OK to wait til' the end of the other auction. So it's kind of stressing me out that she hasn't sent me an invoice yet. I don't want to think ill of her. But, I already had a bad impression of her, and I'm a bit worried about the condition of the dress. She says it has some "small marks" on it, and by her terms, this could mean that they are quite noticeable. She never takes pictures of any damage, big or small. So, I don't quite know what I'm getting myself into, and the dress was not low price. If I don't get an invoice from her tomorrow, I'm thinking of contacting ebay. I really don't want to do this, in fear that she might decide not to sell me the dress at all. But, I don't understand why she hasn't contacted me yet. I wanted the dress for this coming weekend. I shouldn't have to pay extra for shipping to get it this weekend. If she had sent me an invoice I could have paid for it the day I won it, it would have shipped in plenty of time for when I needed it. ARGH, how frustrating!!

I know all of this sounds bad, but honestly in the nearly 190 transactions I've had with ebay, having three that aren't so great really isn't a big deal. I've received the occasional item that wasn't exactly as described, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. The cute Alphabet Sparrow dress I got a couple months ago has some bad seams:( that were so weak they tore when I put it on, and the dress fits fine so they didn't tear because they were tight. But, they were in the sleeves, and this can sometimes be difficult to notice. I guess you have to expect that the majority of the items you buy on ebay might have something a little off about them that the seller doesn't notice. But, there are a lot of really great, friendly, honest sellers. At least the ones I've dealt with are.

With much deliberation among the moderating staff, we feel this thread does not reflect the intent of the Powder Room. While good and bad selling experiences have and should be discussed, the Lounge is not interested in keeping a "running tab" of bad eBay/internet sellers. Please PM with specific questions.

Thank you,

LD
