Renovated Dobbs 5th Ave....

Ok, I know there was a thread here somewhere pertaining to exactly this type of thing, but I searched the first 19 pages or so & came up empty.....[huh]

So, here is a renovated Dobbs I've working on. I didn't like the original braided band & wanted to give a try at making a bow & changing the ribbon, so I did just that. I went with black 1 1/2" wide grosgrain. I also changed the bash as you can see. I went with a tapered pork pie. 4" front and 3" back, the brim is 2". I still have to wet the ribbon a bit & let it dry to get out some wrinkles, but over all, I'm pleased for my 1st attempt.

This is what it looked like before I started....

I then removed the band & steamed and brushed out the indentation from it and the old bash.....

after a good cleaning, I started with my new bash......

and here it is with the new ribbon treatment....

Nice work and it's much better this way.
Although, a chocolat brown ribbon would be also a good choice i think.

bolthead, Nice, very nice. I especially like what you did with the crown. It sounds like you've got the idea about how grosgrain ribbon works. Before you change the ribbon from black, consider that you can now wear it with black clothing. If you change to a brown ribbon, you will feel that it should be worn with brown clothing.
