I received my brim curling tool today, it is a 3/8" curl, iused the tool and the curl is smoother than the curl that I put in by hand, however it seems to be a bit more almost flat. The wife wanted a couple of small dimples in the front, so I did as requested. Here are some photos of the hat after using the brim curling tool.
I will add a little shellac to the brim and use the curling tool again tomorrow and if the curl is still almost flat I will be putting a curl in the brim using my thumb and index finger, my wife just informed me that she likes my brim curl better than what the curling tool has allowed to me do. So Much for fancy tools.

I have one of Marc DeCou block spinners that I use a lot now so I ordered another one from his store on Etsy.
3/8" is a very small curl. I use my 1/2 or 5/8" one the most. And as with most tools it takes a while to master using it.

I worked on my wife's hat last night after I had sprayed the brim with some shellac, I tried using the curling tool again and there wasn't a noticeable change, so I kept steaming and I worked the brim edge with my hand and I was able to put more of a curl in the brim edge. I was able to curl the 3/8" a little more, here is the final results. Maybe I should buy a 1/2" or 5/8" pencil curl tool, the 3/8" tool is too small.

WalshDesign3D sells a set of 6 or so for a really good price.

Hello Fedora Lounge Members,

I just finished another hat. This fedora is 100% Rabbit Fur Felt, the color is Bone and the Vintage Grosgrain Ribbon is a red wine color 1 1/2" wide, hat size is 7 3/8", brim width is 3", the crown shape is teardrop. I am getting ready to post this hat on Ebay for sale, it is different than some of my other hats, I made the bow 5 1/2" long and the ends of the bow are frayed, I decided to try something different with the bow knot. The leather sweatband is a medium brown 2" wide with a small black bow, white satin liner with gold piping. The brim is a snap brim and if you want the brim can be worn turned up. Here are a few photos for you to view.
I should have put a cloth on the table that was a darker color.

If anyone here on The Fedora Lounge would like to buy this Fedora, start a conversation, send me a message, I like direct contact with anyone that wants to buy one of my hats. That gives me a chance to make any changes that the customer might want, reshaping, changing the liner to a different color or cutting the brim width down.

Let me know what you think,
Darrell

Hello Fedora Fans,

I just checked the two hats that I have listed on Ebay for sale and I discovered that Ebay is offering a discount coupon code on my two hats that I have for sale, each fedora has a different discount code. Both Fedoras are 7 3/8", one is a Indiana style fedora and the other is the Bone colored fedora that I posted here on the lounge, if you are interested here is the web link. There are 14 people watching the Indiana style and 5 people watching the bone color fedora.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?item=305605468647&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l170197&_ssn=dwb4926

The coupon is good for 10% off and the only way to see or get the coupon code is if you have log in to your Ebay account.

Thank you for your time and interest,
Darrell

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is having a lot of fun today celebrating the 4th. of July, stay safe have fun.
The Bone color fedora was purchased by a veterinarian in Chicago, he like the hat so much that he plans to order some more hats, so I recently purchase some felts from Pure Beaver and I am also recovering from a recent hospital procedure, so I have not been very active. I hope to get started by This Monday making hats again. I have two beaver felts that I have in mind to start working on. One is called a Natural beaver color which looks like a lite grey, the other is a color is called Brown Sugar and I think that it would make a nice Indiana style fedora, the Natural color is a nice looking bever felt and I may put a Burgundy color hat band on it and maybe try my hand at a brim binding sewn by hand. I just need to decide on color of brim binding, maybe burgundy also. It is going to be good to get back to work making hats, this recovering from the procedure is driving me nuts, just gotta take care of my old pump.
I have an Etsy store, Busted Hats and I started an Instagram page, also Busted Hats
Here are a few photos of the felts that I am talking about. Believe it or not that ribbon is a Burgunday color.

Please let me know If anyone has any suggestions.

Hello Fedora Fans,

Well I finally finished the hat that I was making for a customer following his design instructions, we worked out the colors for his new hat and all details. I made the hat with a FEPSA felt that I purchased from Pure Beaver, the felt is 100% beaver, Whiskey color, the hat band is in the Senate color, one of Art Fawcett's creations, the liner is brown with light brown Paisley print on the sides and a solid brown center that I put my Logo on, the leather sweatband is soft leather tan in color. The hat size 7 1/4", the crown height in front is 4", the back crown height is 3 5/8", crown side height increase to 4 1/4" from the back and decreases to 4" in the front, the crown is bashed in a diamond shape, the brim width is 2 1/2" and flanged.
Here are a few photos for you to view, I will be shipping the hat out this afternoon. I sent photos to my customer for approval and he loves the hat.

Hello Fedora Fans,

I have been a little busy lately making hats for a few people. I was able to make a fedora Pure Beaver Brown Sugar, the hat size is 7 3/8", I put an Art Fawcett hat band on this hat, 1 5/8" wide black grosgrain ribbon with a touch of copper, the hat liner is a brown satin with light brown paisley print, the brim width is 2 3/4", the crown height at the front is 4 1/2", 4" high at the back, a soft pinch at the front of the crown and a single crease in the crown, a 2" wide chestnut color leather sweatband cut to 23 1/4" in length and the brim was flanged, the hat has a snap brim and works perfectly, the hat can be worn with the brim turned up or down.

This hat was not made for a customer, so it is for sale, it is beaver purchased from Tim at Pure Beaver, the felt is very soft and the fit is perfect. I am really happy with the FEPSA felts, even the 120G rabbit is soft and light weight. Here are some photos for you to check out.

Well I wasn't really happy with the way that I had bashed this hat so I gave it another try and here is what it looks like now, I won't bore you with all of the details, some of the measurements have changed, the front dimples are a little deeper and the crown is now a teardrop shape. Here are some new photos.

I agree the first bash did make the hat look like a Indy fedora, I just thought that this hat would look better with a teardrop shaped crown. Well this is two examples of this hat a single crease and a teardrop shape. Which crown shape is better? I am looking for some input here from the Forum members, please jump in and let me know which bashing is the best for this hat?

The Indy Fedora sold last night and today it is on the way to MN. Someone is interested in the steel gray with burgundy and I may have to reshape the crown for the customer, but that is not a big deal. I blocked another Indy fedora today, just waiting for the felt to dry. After the steel grey is gone that will leave me with the brown sugar pure beaver, 7 3/8" very comfortable to wear, easy to forget that you are wearing a hat. The hat band on the Brown Sugar is actually a deep blue steel color. Contact me if you are interested in the brown sugar beaver, we can work on the cost.

Hello Fedora Fans,

I have 3 hats posted on Ebay for sale right now and I am thinking about trying something new and before I do I thought that I would ask for some input from Lounge Members.
I am thinking about make a Clint Eastwood Good Bad Ugly hat, complete with brim binding, the brim binding would be a challenge for me, a brim binding with a 1/2" pencile curl would make the binding more of a challenge.
The hat that I have in mind would have a 4 1/2" tall crown, gambler/telescope style and a brim that is 4 1/8" wide, leather hat band and pencil curl with brim binding.
Is this a good idea or should I forget about it?
If I should take on this challenging project, what size should I make the hat?
6 7/8, 7, 71/8, 7 1/4 or 7 3/8??

Please respond with any suggestions.

Thank you for your time and help,
Darrell

Hello Fedora Fans,

Here is a Fedora that I have been working on for a customer, this is a FEPSA Beaver in natural color, the brim is 2 1/2" wide, the front of the crown is about 2.7" high at the wide pinch that is about 2" wide, the crown height in the back is 4 1/4" high and 3 1/2" wide, the crown has a single crease. The Burgundy hat band was made by Art Fawcett, the hat has a 2" wide soft leather sweatband with a white bow, the satin liner is black with silver paisley design. I haven't taken photos of the inside yet because I just finished bashing it and I have it on a WalshDesign3D band block so the hat fits the customer like a glove. Here are a few photos of the hat so far, the hat design could change if the customer changes his mind about something, I am waiting on his reply.
