Recruiting: Lounge members for special edition Moonstone Camp Draft

Some of you may have noticed some banter about a Moonstone Camp Draft over in the Camp Draft thread. Well this project may be taking flight if you would like to sign on. We need 30 members to confirm their solid interest to get the ball rolling.

I recently inquired via email to Sam, the owner of everythingaustralian about the possibility of having a special run of Akubra Camp Drafts. I suggested a CD in Moonstone with a 2 5/8th brim. I told Sam how his bluegrass green is such a hit with the folks from the Fedora Lounge.

Sam got back to me immediately and said if we can get together 30 FL members he is more than happy to try and broker the manufacture. He felt 90% certain that Akubra would be open to production of this special Moonstone version. He also said if this model went over well he would even stock some in his store.

Sam was so interested in the idea he called me direct at home from his shop in Australia. Was I ever surprised at his enthusiasm.

The specs - Moonstone Camp Draft (open crown as usual) in Imperial (standard) felt with a 2 5/8ths brim. Everything we love in a CD, plus a moderate brim size for those so inclined.

So now it is time to gauge your enthusiasm. Lets get the ball rolling on the countdown to 30. I think I have seen positive responses from the following folks.

That was a fast dozen,,but we need more. If I can see another 12 onboard quickly I will get back to Sam to iron out some more details on payment, sizing and delivery date. Sam did say to expect the usual 3 month wait.

I believe we even went so far as members emailing directly to get this hat but Akubra wouldn't do it...

I know we tried to get a Campdraft deluxe in heritage...that worked VERY well. In fact, my hat from that effort is in the backseat of my truck waiting for cooler weather. I also think the Lounge was successful before I joined in getting a bluegrass green campdraft made up and I've seen pictures of those. l know the Lounge tried to get a FedFest Stetson, but, that didn't work out. If there was an attempt at getting a moonstone, it was pre-me.

The Lounge has gotten special runs on the Glen Grey & the Heritage silverbelly campdrafts since I have been patronizing the place.
We did feel out a Moonstone run but without interest from a hat shop. Very interesting that there appears to be a Heritage Moonstone offering...

I think that puts our count at 15 now for the Imperial grade moonstone 2 5/8. So thinking positively our glass is half full. Keep your requests coming.

Just wanted to say again to count me in even though I'm listed in the first post. Haven't seen moonstone in person. I own a Glen Grey, though, and would love to have a lighter shade of grey CD.

I have five CD's and trimmed them all to 2 5/8". Admittedly, it's risky business with fabric scissors and sandpaper but they turned out pretty nice. Ideal proportions for me.

In the spirit of camaraderie I am in for a size 59. I am returning to Canada on Monday and there is a brand new bluegrass green from Sam waiting for me at home. The Moonstone will be Akubra #3.
