Real McCoys Horsehide World War I Aviators Coat (new release)

This is one mighty impressive garment. I don't think I could pull it off, but I am nevertheless awestruck.

I may be wrong but I don't think zips had been invented in 1914 ?

The zipper was in its infancy stage as of 1914 and almost certainly was not sufficiently vetted to appear on military coats: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zipper . RMC clearly took some creative license with its incorporation of the zipper. Inspiration vs. exact reproduction . . . based on a true story vs. true story.

I could easily wear it with a few modifications. Take the big unsightly zipper away, flatten the pockets, shorten it,...oh never mind!

I'll take a standard looking barnstormer.

My friend owned literally the exact same coat sans the chest pocket. The thing was a WW1 original, German or Austrian I believe and I remember the two big pockets on the sides and the throat latch 'cause that was the first time I've seen it. These and similar coats are not particularly rare in my part of Europe, they pop up from time to time on the local classified sites. You can even still see them on really old people. Odd the RMC would pick this particular design... It is nice but I'm really well used to seeing 'em. I even tried wearing it for a while but it just didn't work.

And come on, Super! You're rockin' that Brodovitch and you don't think you could pull this off!? :D

^ I am not a fan of the pleated denim jackets reproduced in leather -- to be honest, I don't care for them in denim either (I appreciate the heritage, but its a little too western for my taste).

Darn that Real McCoys WWI aviator trench doesn't come in my size! They only go up to a size 42.

I like this jacket even more today. If it didn't have the folded things, not a big fan of these either but the rest of the jacket is a perfection. Proper action back, that back belt... Perfection. I really like the pocket, tho. Just one roughly sewn on pocket, for the wallet or whatever, it's what makes the jacket look so utilitarian and it's exactly why I don't think the fancy folded detail doesn't fit with the rest of it. But it's not bad in any case. I love this thing.
