Real McCoy's j-24 sleeve alteration

Hi!

I live in NYC and need two inches off my sleeve. As the jacket is so nice, I'm nervous about who I use to alter the sleeve. Any New York recommendations?

Great Leather or Johnson Leathers. Neither is in NYC but both will get the job done. Most folks here seem to use one or the other. I use GL, but also have used JL.

Off the top of my head, the makers in NYC and the NE will only work on their own jackets. I’d be interested to know if there is an option in the city that can skillfully work on these jackets.

Yes, I think it would fit perfectly if it were altered to my cuff. The actual jacket fits very nicely. I have always had arms that are about two inches too short. My damn genetics ; ) That cuff starts at about 3 inches...

I so appreciate this folks. I'm nervous about doing the work but all the folds and the jacket running to my knuckles is not a look I like. I've almost never had a jacket that didn't need a sleeve shortening.

Sure thing. Welcome to FL by the way! It's a very nice jacket. I would agree an inch or so off would be better, but personally I would vastly rather have my sleeves slightly longer than shorter. Reach out to Dena - she will do great work for you on this one.

Jacket is new? I'd give it a few wears before doing anything. I agree the sleeves are long. Some on here will argue between 1-3 inches long LOL. I'd let some creases form, that divet in the elbow, etc. You still probably going to need something, but I would think closer to 1 to 1.5 when all is said and done.

This is critical. You don't want to shorten it then realize it's now 1" too short after riding up!

I would not take off more than 1". I think taking off 2 would make them far too short. IMO they don't even look that terrible. MC jackets are supposed to have longer sleeves and otherwise this jacket does fit you well.

This looks great to me. I had the same issue with a Mr Freedom jacket and I just dunked the leather in water to soak through completely and wore the jacket to set the creases.

It's the J-24. (Look at the lack of attachment snaps on the collar.)

I’m with @dudewuttheheck, 1” absolute max and honestly, I would t even do that. Dena and Alan are both outstanding at what they do but I would give this at least 6 months wear before any radical surgery. Tbh the sleeves looks just fine as is. If this were mine I wouldn’t dare alter it.

I think it looks perfect for a MC jacket. That's where I like mine to hit, slightly above my thumb knuckle. Shorter sleeves on almost any other style can work but sleeves too much shorter than that on a MC jacket doesn't look right. The idea is if you hold your arms out as if you're holding handlebars, your sleeves should end at the end of your wrists. Even if you don't ride, that is the proper look for that style jacket IMO, so even if you are a poseur you at least won't look like one lol
