Real McCoy J-24 vs Vanson C2

More money than Vanson but no nicer. Only benefit of Schott is more models of cross zip. Quality wise I’d say equal. There was a Schott store by my house a few years ago. I tried them all on. Never pulled the trigger.
Legit wealth of knowledge, thank you!

TRM very expensive repros. Truly, many other jackets that are less expensive and just as much fun. For j24 the Lost worlds is real well made. I like Vanson because it is a quality product properly priced. Vanson's JP27 repro is hard to beat. I have one and it is a tank. I see Vansons as tools when riding. The real mc coy j24 is cut in a trendy way in my view. Would I rock that real mc coy? Hell yes, but the price is not justifiable to me. I have 7 j24 types . Three originals and 4 repros. My favorite repro is a custom made by a old timer jacket maker who, used to sell his products back in the 80s in a swap meet in L.A. Too bad Vansons do not make a j24 type...

I considered a LW before buying the RMC. The thing that pushed me towards the RMC is that I prefer buying OTR whenever possible. That way if i don’t like the fit or some other aspect I can just send it right back.

My vote is for the RMC if you can afford it and won't rue the cost. I've owned a few Vansons and they're great for riding but I've got to say the most-recently made one felt very plasticky/pleathery. Also, I've never owned an RMC but do have a couple ELMCs (are they comparable?; maybe others can chime in)

This is a great thread, in that I love it when people compare two items that might be far apart in price but have merits in their own right that render them about equal. Nothing more I can add that others haven't, however I saw the below and I can make a suggestion.

This is a fantastic answer, thank you. Where do you think something like a Schott Perfecto fits into this?

If you like the Perfecto design, I would just go right ahead and order a 613SH. It is the classic Perfecto design– just elevated in materials, execution, and style. The pattern is excellent with amazing range of motion, the hide is one of the best I have ever handled, the V-shape extremely flattering. I wrote a topic about the 613SH, because there is relatively little out there about this jacket in particular, and it has only gotten better since. From the website description on Schott's site, you can't tell much about what makes it so special– but special it is.

I don't know if you're a watch guy, but this analogy may be useful if you are. If the 60s/70s Schott Perfecto is a 5513 Rolex Submariner, the 613SH is like the last 5-digit Submariners (elevated materials and build quality, but the same look and shape as the classic).

If you're thinking of a J24, I would take the LW version over the RMC - Actually that's exactly what I did

This jacket is very functional although no armour, so keep that in mind. But you can also pose in it :D

So not any day of the week, but more like every hour of the day, including sleeping in it lol

More seriously, I discovered Vanson thanks to this forum, and especiallu thanks to @jpk_NJ who sold me this one

While it may not always be as well finished as some more expensive jackets, it hard to argue with how cool they can be. And they give you much better range of movement than most makers. Easily a few levels above RMC in that aspect unless you happen to have the specific body type that works with RMCs - I don't.

Wow you aren’t wrong, the 613SH is stunning. Great write up btw. Might need to travel to find my way to an in person store.

Great idea, if you’re near one.

Another option would be to order it in your size from the Schott site, try it on, and return if it doesn’t work. (Your size in this jacket is usually one up from your measured chest. You could also try two sizes and return the one that doesn’t work.)

I will eat my words from earlier post (#5), and instead I say this to the OP:
Go with the most you can get within the budget. If you can find a used RMC/LW within your budget, then go for it. And you can always come back to get a Vanson when one pops up later since you've already got other riding jackets.
BFD's post 8 and 9 made me realize one thing. Without the uber expensive brands I will have no desire in this jacket hobby. The truth is most of my jackets are around the $1k mark or less. But I know one day I will get one of these uber expensive jackets when the time is right. Meanwhile I will still complain about how expensive and overpriced they are, that just part of the package.

My problem is with my more expensive jackets is that I baby them,, whereas with my vansons, schotts etc I wear the hell out of them and enjoy them more. My vanson e is one jacket I will never sell,, with the detachable collar on it works both on the bike and off,,

No direct answer for your question, but just a quick friendly reminder on the pattern change of RMC J24. Be careful with the different cut of J24 produced before 2021 and after 2021 (model BJ21101). I believe all the experience above are based on RMC J-24 produced before 2021. Check the size table of Real McCoy’s Nagoya to get a direct idea.
