Real McCoy buco j 100 vs Eastman j 100 vs aero j 100 ?

Yet, RMC actually purchased the Buco name. I doubt that means that Aero has the right to use it.

They might, but it's a weird situation.

It'll depend on jurisdiction most likely; ownership of a registered mark in one territory does not extend to another. Vague memory suggests that it's much easier to register a historical mark in Japan than anywhere else, but I don't recall the details. In any case, if Aero have done it, it'll have been above board, I have no doubt. Quite likely pursuant to a pre-existing arrangement before the Buco mark changed hands. It's a fascinating element of the trade, though- tbh, if I bought a jacket rom wither Aero or RMC, I'd rather have their own mark on it than a Buco label, but then I suppose there must be folks who want a Buco repop to be correct down to the label, same as most of us would probably want on an A2 repop.

Wasn't HPA supposed to get the Eastman J-100?

Good memory, Grayland, and thanks for thinking of us. The short answer is, yes. But Gary Eastman has not been accommodating toward this end when I asked for a sample to review details and fit in my size so as to educate myself in the style. Mind you, I wasn't asking for a free item, just that I need to handle the item before placing a sizable stock order. This is SOP for the industry and our friends at Toyo in Japan send us samples of anything we intend on ordering from them, knowing, of course, that there is a chance we won't order and would then return the sample.

Gary has rejected my request on two occasions. Being the baseball fan I am, I believe in three strikes before I drop an issue, so I'll give this another try this year and see what happens. It looks to be a great rendition, but I'll place no orders unless I can assess the style and its fit so as to order sizes in the right ratios, etc.

from pictures I saw here some version have flat shoulder and some has drop shoulder.
visually I like jacket with drop shoulder better than with flat shoulder, however if the wearer (like me :() doesn't really have trapezius muscle to fill the drop, and the jacket is not really snug on the chest or the leather really thick, it could flare on the bottom when the jacket worn open, because the drop on the shoulder would rest on your real shoulder and push the jacket to flare, so it is best to be worn half zipped, while the model with flat shoulder can be worn open all the time and won't flare on the bottom although to me they look more like shirt than jacket and not as cool as the one with drop shoulder, just my opinion from wearing my own jackets that all have drop shoulder and some does flare and some doesn't. so I wear something to fill in the shoulder when I want to wear the jacket unzipped, like hoodies, or chunky turtleneck, or scarf maybe(I don't live in a scarf climate so I don't have any)

flat is not really flat, I mean lesser drop than ones with real drop from neck to shoulder

Thanks Charles! Your write ups, pictures and detailed measurements/sizing advice are the next best thing to actually trying on a J-100 - and most of won't have the opportunity to try one on prior to buying.

Hi HPA! That seems strange. From what i know, the Eastman Taiwan distributors did get their hands on the Buco J 100. Perhaps they just ordered it before having a sample to try on?

I do not understand why they would not provide you with a sample...unless they are not confident in the product (which I don't think they aren't)? Hoping that you will get a sample soon in the future so to share some more info about their J-100.

@navetsea which version are you referring to? The version by RMC or Eastman?

Fact would have it that the Eastman is a little bit more unique. You've got quite a few of the regular J100's on the market while this earlier version (or maybe it's later? can't say for sure but it's definitely seldom seen) is made only by Eastman and Himel. It's just as accurate as the other, only of slightly more exotic version of the J100 which is what I personally would go for. :)

I think for all intents and purposes you may be right....and the grain on the jacket you posted is just awesome!

However, maybe I somehow place my emphasis on the "tea core" aspect of this model (which I know is not in the original anyways), as the effect may look cool in this particular model..

decisions decisions....

from the pictures posted by member on this forum RMC j100 has somewhat flatter shoulder compared to other mentioned like DD or Himel, judging from photos alone here.

Sounds like you guys have been having fun checking out all the J100s around.
For a start, I own an earlier Diamond J100, with Horween leather rather than the Shinki. I also personally handled both the RM J100 and the ELC version in their pop-up store. Regardless of the hides used, I think the Goodwear/DD pattern fits more like a shirt where you have a longer jacket with a bit of flare below the waist line, drop-shoulders with wider arm holes. The RM J100 looks more like a typical cafe racer which is shorter, flat shoulder and smaller armholes with slim sleeves, obviously fits Asian built better. Eastman one is somewhere in between but you loose some of the 'repro' character as they use their own zippers and tags. I have yet to see the Aero version in person myself.

I think no matter which brand you are going for, the hides will be awesome. From my own experience with these companies, the ELC one probably needs the less break-in to get the characters out. RMC's Shinki always looks shiny when new, but breaks in fast, as they intensionally put easy to wear coatings on. As for Aero/Goodwear/DD/BK, you really need to wear it a lot to break them in. Just my 2cents. If I were you, I would try out the RMC one first.

If I remember correctly it should be the Japanese Real McCoy's official list price with a conversion rate of 100yen to HKD 8 to 9. I forget if it is the official after tax or before tax price.
The shop however do not have a lot of stock, a lot of items have to be ordered.
Correction. My friend told me conversion is more around 100yen to HKD7.3 and it is likely to be the after tax Japanese list price.

I thank you, Grayland! It's so very satisfying to know all the hard work and effort are appreciated. What you have noted so well fully summarizes what is at the core of the shopping experience I endeavor to create, where product knowledge and familiarity are as exhaustive and thorough as they can be, and this is readily disseminated to the customer with full human assistance available, thus providing decision-making tools that are as close to trying on as possible. I personally appreciate that customer disappointment and having to make a return helps neither us or the buyer, and that any laziness or ineptitude on the merchant's behalf as it relates to product knowledge is alien to true customer care. Thank you!

Your guess is as good as mine, and based on what I actually do know, it makes even less sense. But I will try again to get a sample and see where this goes. Thank you!

I have tried on RM J100 and J24, The fit as everyone said is definitely different. I mean I'm Asian with a slim build, even I feel like their armholes are really high and sleeves slim/tight. I can't imagine a bigger guy comfortably fitting into it. I would not buy a RM without actually trying it on IRL

Then it seems more impossible for me to get the RMC.... I tried calling the Hong Kong distributor here and they don't have size 38 (presumably my size) in stock... getting to try one seems difficult unless you are in Japan or london.

Travel. Might as well see the world for the cost of a RMC jacket. And get some real adventure and miles on it.

But your post definitely pushes me to go to at least Japan for testing out the jackets !

I visited the Real McCoy's store in Tokyo this summer and they definitely had every size to try on. It was paradise. Certainly worth a look.
