Hello all. I’m new to the forum and found it looking for info on a pea coat I purchased off eBay. Based on my readings here, I believe I have a 1975 USN-issued pea coat but I would appreciate a second opinion.

Is there a reason you yearn for this button placement ?

Sorry for the delayed reply — holiday commitments.

I've read that the internal button helps divide the load, so as to take stress off the working, showing buttons. Also, and maybe more importantly, I'd like it for the times when I came inside but not for long enough to take the coat off (e.g., into a store or other quick stop). On other double-breasted coats I've owned, it's been nice to leave that button engaged while the others are undone to get a bit of ventilation with some neatness maintained.

I've never heard of anything so ridiculous. Please stop doing that.

Hello, all. I was told to come here for a wealth of knowledge.

I wonder if I might be able to get some assistance on checking if this is an authentic coat tag. This coat is in my size, which seems like a lucky find.

Yes, that is very much an authentic tag. Most likely a 1949 tag which has the nicest of the outer shells of any of the peacoats I have handled. If you have a chance to buy this coat, do so.

BTW, welcome to the Lounge. PC.

Greetings All:
Today....was wearing this so i thought i’d pop it in here. Coast Guard pea coat that is a marvelous wool. I was so impressed i bought another one for me then the Navy version for my Daughter. Gave me great joy to see her reaction when i gave it to her and told her how sought after this issue was. Hell, she goo goo’d and gaa gaa’d more than when i gave her a vintage Langlitz cross zip. Smart kid!! Lol
Be well. Bowen

Both of mine arrived today. No pics yet, and sadly, we're have a warming trend.
The '83 fits pretty well, though slightly tight with a sweater. Marked 46, about right.
The '49 fits big in a tshirt, but with an Irish fishing sweater underneath, it fits perfectly.

Chances are I might sell the '83. Just not sure yet how much I'll be wearing a peacoat when the weather does not call for a sweater under it.

@AbbaDatDeHat a nice 1949 Coast Guard peacoat. What a nice finish that year has. And you were able to get the same year for your daughter?
Thank you Peacoat, i couldn’t agree more about the CG wool finish. It’s nicer than many hats i’ve seen.
The daughter’s era is close, i believe, but not a CG. It appears equal if not identical to both my CGs. All 3 exceptional. We are both very happy with them.
The pic is of the daughter’s label.
Be well. Bowen
