What a wonderful, wonderful hat...
Paul
I was drinking my coffee this morning and browsing the Lounge.
I saw that hat and thought, 'gee, I have a hat just like that'.
Oh. Wait a minute.

I shouldn't be allowed to have internet access till after the first cup.

Of course that hat is pretty convincingly not pre-1940, dinoman.
But I appreciate all the work you're doing to create this archive.
I note that you're making lasting copies of those eBay photos, too.
I'll enjoy coming back to this thread.

Should I add my 1936 western hat catalog? I could scan it...

<<Pablo>>, I'll drink a Belgian Abbey Ale in your honor this evening.

Meh, two years isn't much. And stylistically it's pretty close to '30s ones.

I'd love to see the catalog scans. Anything you've got- even if it's not Stetson. There's not nearly enough on here about the old cowboy hats.

Okay, I don't have the time to do this, but...

Sorry about all those Miller hats, Dinerman. Here are some real Black Stetsons!

Sorry about all the black hats, Lefty! Here are some white ones.
"We pay the postage". And they call eBay progress!

That is really an amazing catalog - thanks.

I was surprised NOT to see any of the frayed-edge grosgrain ribbons in your catalog images, especially given how many we've found on ebay from that era.

Feltfan: Belgian abbey ale? Well, lucky you! :eek:fftopic: I don't drink much beer at all, because of diabetes and the need to keep the weight down, but these beers are marvellous. Why, if you were anywhere around here, or if ever you are near, I have some Belgian beers that will surprise you. Just look at ratebeer.com and check on the "3 Fonteinen" Kriek (cherry beer). Served in a "flute" (sparkling wine "tulip" glass), this beer is every bit as delicious as any Champagne (and I know about good Champy, too...love it).

Back to topic: a great catalog there. I think I'll take advantage of the great prices and hats as advertised...

Apologies- I believe we discussed this before. Hope I didn't bring up
a sore point. Haven't tried 3 Fonteinen Kriek, but I have been enjoying
some Lindeman's recently. Next time I'm in Brussels.

I'm glad some people are enjoying the catalog. The rest of it shows
some pretty amusing western wear- chaps, beautiful stirrups, etc.
Spectacular cowboy boots.

Is it just me, or are some of the hats on the first page nothing more than wide-brimmed fedoras with frayed bows? They have fedora height crowns and creases, so what distinguishes them from a city hat other than the frayed bow?

Interesting thread though, especially since Westerns don't exist in England and would just look ridiculously out of place.
