First time that I have seen this stamp. Nice surprise that it is a 7 1/4, but very dirty.

The stamps under the sweatband are what you would expect to see on a hat of this age.

Was excited to get this one. Seller thought it was close to measuring in at a 7 1/4. Ends up fitting great! Still needs some cleaning up at front of sweat and ribbon tie areas. Pretty lightweight for a 6" crown and 3" brim. Has the 3 cord ribbon with 3/16" brim binding. First Stetson No.1 I've found that fits. Love the red liner with the gold piping. From Whitehills in Salinas/Visalia Ca.

Very nice, Bill. I love that hat, and since I was born near Visalia, that makes it really cool to me.

I was watching that one on ebay. I'm glad you got it, Vic!!

I've never seen that stamp before, its extremely interesting.

Does the re-dorder tag list the block number and crown height?

Block#322 5 1/2" Color is close to a military hat.
I liked to say that the W.W. stands for Walt Whitman, but Willy Wonka is probably closer.

Vic, that's one of the most beautiful looking (non-long haired) Stetson Westerns I've ever seen! Congrats on that find. I believe that the Vertical No.1 imprint makes it a fairly early hat. Also, look at the incredible deep embossing detail in that No.1 stamp. If only hat companies today would put that much time and effort in something a little as a sweatband stamp.

At Alan's recommendation, here are some pics of my new No. 1 Quality Stetson, presuming that it's pre 1940s. Any other specific thoughts on the date?
Enjoy!

Jeff, again, GREAT HAT AND GREAT FIND!!! This photo is interesting to me. Based on this re-order tag, the hat probably dates to somewhere in the very late 30's or early 40's. Based on the liner, sweatband style, and embossing, I originally thought it was from the 20's or earlier. I didn't realize that Stetson was still using these same features into the 40's.

Excellent... thanks for adding the inside photos! This is a later No. 1, interestingly from the same sweatband LOT# as the one Buler posted last year, also with the single field manufacturing label that Stetson moved to somewhere around 1940. It shares the nice pebble finish sweatband with B's and also with this little one I have - though mine has the transitional small 3 panel manufacturing label which preceded the label in the other two hats.

So I'm calling this one in at 1940-41... though I could be all wet, pardner. It's a beautiful hat in great condition.
