A long-overdue bump to this, one of my favorite threads. Way to go, Robert! :eusa_clap A fantastic lid with interesting details. Buffalo sure seemed to have a disproportionate share of hatters back in the day.

I was tempted to jump into the fray on this one for the Buffalo provenance. We were a big city in those days - in the top 10 in the U.S. in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. We had dropped off by 1920 and today, I believe, our urban center doesn't make the top 50.

Fantastic hat with a well placed and nice dark sweatband Lot stamp.

I thought it was a pitch black hat based on the auction pictures, but it just looked washed out because of the photos. Its great that its an olive color. Its very stunning. How light is the hat actually? Is the Extra Light Weight referring to the thickness of the felt or the actual weight of the overall hat?

Thanks Josh. It is light, but had lots of wear so is a bit on the limp side. Not quite as thin as an early Stratoliner/Alessandria. The meet in the middle center crease wants to return.

Very cool! It most definitely reminds me of a Strat, but with a much cooler bow. I can't make out the block number and height. Is it legible on your end?

Looks like some scribbles even in person unfortunately. I suspect about 5-5/8" with a relatively flat top. Flanging is even all around--but may not be original.

Darn, thats ok, thanks for checking. I do like the crown profile on this hat much better than on the later Strats. Its much flatter on top which is of course my favorite.

Standard Quality 1930's

Finally presentable after about a year. It has 7-1/8 factory stamps, but was the size of a 7-3/8--only at the sweatband-bulging at the base of the crown. Have managed to bring it to a smooth contour at a snug 7-1/4 and the bulge is almost gone.
