And then I show up at a friends shop.....and they say they were waiting for me.........
3.....THREE......3!!!!! 1930's Dobbs!!!!!!
Black/Charcoal mix, plush (short hair) finish (Game Bird Mixtures, was introduced around 1935).
Special note: "Panel Edge" (which appears to be a very clean cut raw edge). RED eyed (skinny)Lions, oh my...........
Late 30's tag did not come out clear......
NEXT, Dark Grey Mix.....Black Sweat.....note "Glovfit" Trade Name, Patent Applied For" & early use of "Dobbs Guild Edge" (introduced in the late 30's).
AND finally this....A Dark Blue/Black Plush (short hair) silk finish with a silk satin ribbon. VERY fine Cavanagh edge. Note the 1931 Cavanagh edge stamp (used throughout the 30's) and early use of the red roundel with some magnificent tassels on the sweat bow! Would look good with a tux. Hard to photograph this one really shines!
This one has the 30's alternate line less tag, I wonder if it was special order?
Each of these hats has a very generous crown (5 5/8" plus) with 2 3/8" to 2 1/2" brims.....VERY, VERY thin and pliable felt!!! Soft as an ermine fur. Changes shape every time you touch it.....
VERY petable........
Two of the hats fit me fairly well (sit on my head a little high) the other not so much. So will probably move the ill fitting one along (when I am done petting it/them).
My friend also had a very clean 60's Champ in its box which I picked up for the "Mad Men" Crowd.....that simply love those hats. Will make good trade bait........
All in all quite a surprise for my visit......................
