Praying for strength . . .

Superfluous

I came across an original Buco J-100 today that was other worldly -- perfect patina -- perfect fit -- an epic, grail jacket. I decided to buy it -- even handed over my credit card. Then, in a moment of pragmatic clarity, I balked. I already have way too many leather jackets, such that none get an adequate amount of wear. Moreover, this jacket was priced meaningfully above-market (to the extent that there is a meaningful benchmark) -- e.g., $3,xxx. I went back and forth for 30 minutes. Do I pay too much for a jacket that I will only wear a few times a year? On the other hand, it is soooo rare to find a vintage Buco J-100 in this condition that fits so perfectly -- can I really walk away from such a superlative jacket. Yes, no, no, yes. And . . . . I left without the jacket. I have to draw the line somewhere, both in terms of price and quantity. I am praying for the strength to hold firm and not buy it.

Just wear one of the many great quality jackets you own for a while and it'll have great patina, too. Wearing a jacket that got its look from someone else would never feel like wearing a jacket of my own, but always like wearing someone else's jacket. I want my jackets to show the marks of my life.

Overpriced and you don't even have enough wear-time to fully appreciate and enjoy all those high end jackets you own? You did the right thing.

This forum is like a reverse A. A. Meeting, we encourage each other to going deeper into the addiction, so no shoulder to cry here buddy, man up and BUY IT! [emoji16]
Just a friendly advice, of course, do what floats your boat.
In reality you'll never put any patina in your jackets simply because you've got too many and it would take several lifetimes, BUT, don't worry! They look awesome as they are and fit you great.
That Buco might be THE ONE...

I think all you needed were a few friendly Fedora lounge enablers behind your back, to help you along the last few steps!

If you can buy this jacket and still afford to pay rent, feed yourself and have some money left in case of emergency why not buy it?
Do you want $3000 more than you want this jacket?

I think your repros far exceed the original (as do most if not all). The original Buco's I've handled had a marginally attractive leather and weren't all that much different in feel and fit to the Brooks/Kehoe/Reed jackets of the same era. I know there is that whole mystic thing going on with Buco but from my experience they only command those prices due to the value that others place on them. Materials and construction really aren't that great at all. You made the right choice for sure.
