It's his italian brown horsehide, from a tannery in Tuscany I believe. Really thick and relatively grainy stuff, lovely color. It's somewhat between mid-brown and reddish brown, with some darker spots here and there. That's pretty cool, which brown horsehide is that and how do you find it compares with your other thedi jacket in deerskin when it comes to thickness/drape/feel
It's obviously a thicker and heavier leather than the deerskin, it feels more 'substantial'. That was the look I was going for, and Theodoros also advised me to take the horsehide on this jacket (as he did with deerskin on the other). Even though deerskin is a very tough leather, I still think this horsehide is even sturdier and I won't have as much problems babying the jacket in the first months. Though this horsehide is by no means a hard leather, the deerskin is a lot softer still. The latter is also unparalleled regarding the smell, if you find that important.
It drapes fairly well but definitely isn't as pliable as deerskin or even cowhide. It's still very comfortable though, I've already worn it a lot the past two days and it's great when wearing open or closed, the only hard part is getting the collar up and down as I have to reach behind my back for it and it's quite big, but those are details.
I chose these jackets for very different occasions: this one is to become one of my winter daily drivers as it's lined with flannel; protects me from the wind and the cold. The deerskin is a 3 season jacket, which is why it's a thinner leather with a cotton lining. I probably couldn't see myself using deerskin for this coat, though it would look good no doubt.
