Here is a Dobbs Fifth Avenue I won on EBay last week. It arrived over the weekend, and after some cleaning and reshaping, I am wearing it in the studio today as it dries.

The felt on this one is stiffer and thicker than my older Stetsons (much heavier than the Lee Adventurer) and actually approaches my Akubra country hats in feel.

The brim is 2 1/4" wide, with a top-welted edge (did I phrase that right?). As I've bashed the crown, it is 4" at the crease up front, 4 1/4" in the back, and 4 3/4" on the side.

Any thoughts about its age? I have no clue.

... I really wasn't expecting it until Tuesday or Wednesday so it was quite a surprise.

It seems a little darker to me than the pic on HD's website, almost more of a chocolate color to me, but I like it. :) ...
Hey ValEag...
Now what ya mean about being surprised. I was expecting a lid from HD on Monday, but there was a box for me Saturday.

As for your Akubra Fedora, that looks close to the Dark Brown Fed I have.
I think you should order a Dark Brown Fed IV so you can post comparison pics for us.

You know the saying, "sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield"?

Here I found that it's "sometimes you're the addict and sometimes you are the pusher".

Today I am your "pusher" ;)

$7.95

Picked this one up for $AU7.95 (that's $5.40 for our American readers).
It is
1. My first Stetson
2. My first Beaver felt (xxx)
and
3. My first thin ribbon

It has been significantly nibbled upon by moths (mostly under the brim)
but I quite like it. The worst of the damage is quite close to the edge, so I am wondering if I should have the edge trimmed (and perhaps bound). Especially as the worst of the nibbles is right above my left eye (where I am constantly wondering what it is).

for those of you who can't read the last image, it tells me it has come to Australia from Schupler's Inc. 418 Clematis St West Palm Beach Fla.

The little lady next to me searches feverishly for a 7 1/4 porkpie to wear when we're out together.

I'll keep any eye out for you dooch. Don't be afraid to pick up just about any 7 1/4 and do the pork pie crease yourself. [huh]

Any specific color or brim width?

Nice! I was at Byrnie Utz' earlier this afternoon, and tried on a Borsalino Panama...now I 'need' one badly.

Anyway, I was there to pick up this Borsalino I won on ebay Saturday and had dropped off for re-blocking:
