Hey guys, nice hats!
This is me in my brand new Federation IV:

I love how it looks from the side angles, but I'm not so sure about the front profile:

It seems kind of big and round, what do you guys think?

Oh, I dunno. It's a large hat, but you don't appear to be a midget yourself, so your overall size and fairly prominent facial features balance it out. It'll take some getting used to, but you'll get there soon enough, I'd bet.

Looks great to me!:eusa_clap You will get used to the crown no problem. To me from the front this hat fits you perfectly.

I agree. That Fed looks great on you! It takes a little time to get used to the taller crowns, but I think once you wear it a while, you will feel more comfortable with it.

Hi JP, I think that FedIV looks fine on you. Wait for a few days and you will get used. And, if you do not, you can always re-bash it with a lower front.

I like the colour too. Is it Carbon Grey? If I ever get a FedIV i would probably not order it in dark brown, if only to avoid the Indiana Jones pun...

BTW, I thought FedIVs came open crowned? Or is that so only if you order them direct to Akubra?

I have ordered twice from them and both times around 5 days.

Lucky! I've ordered from them twice too and mine took a week and a half to two weeks both times.

Thank you, Alan and Ken. This is my first wind trolley but not my first tall, straight crown. This is the widest brim I have but I like it.

jpbales, if you wear that hat you will get used to its tall crown and then you will start to look for that feature in the hats you buy. My first two fedoras had shorter, more tapered crowns. One sits in its box and I sold the other. That hat looks good on you. Enjoy it and wear it in good health. I like the color too...that must be carbon gray.

New Old Stetsons Questions

I've been on a little $pree and will have to catch up with photos in time.

Anyway, I just received two vintage Stetson Medalist fur felt hats. Anyone know the history of this model? Was it developed/marketed to celebrate a particular year of Olympic Games or sumthin'?

These are pretty old hats judging from several signs.

Yeah, it's "carbon gray," a fairly dark gray color. I also wanted to avoid the Indiana Jones pun as well, plus I liked his gray fedora too, which is a look I was going for. Yes, it comes open crowned. I worked on the bash and on the shape for a while trying to figure out the right bash for it, shaping the brim, and getting it to fit. I'm between sized 59 and 60 so I shrunk the hat down a little using steam and a blow dryer.

Dobbs Gotham

This week I got two new sweet hats. The first is the Dobbs Gotham I bought from Flyer36 in a different thread. It's a beautiful hat. It came with the box, and it makes me happy!
