Biltmore Senator

I have to hand it to Biltmore.. they are making great looking hats under the leadership of their new owner. Finally, a company that makes a variety of stingy brims.

I loved this diamond crown when I saw it online... it's a classic style with a modern look. You'll have to excuse the dorky mug shot-bathroom mirror pose, but it was the best I could do.

Can't wait for the cooler weather to wear this out on the town!!

Black Knox Straw.....

I've been looking to get a Black Milan for quite some time now. I missed out on a beautiful black Stetson Milan about a month ago, but yesterday I was lucky enough to nab this Black Knox. I can't wait to get it.

my hat

hello, this is my only hat as i am new. Its called 'robin', due to the style 'robin hood' noted in the sweat band. i didn't brush it b4 the photo so it looks a bit fluffy.
but i want to know a bit about it; when it was probably made, that sorta thing.
below is a link to the tread i started trying to find out about it

{Hey DrewB, welcome. No help on that hat from me but there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here that may shed some light. Just glad to see the site back up and running.}

OK fellas, soze when I wuz in Memphis I saw this grey Borsalino - a little grungy and with metal PACKING STAPLES through the sweatband - for $95.00 in an antique mall. They wouldn't go below $80.00 so I left it there.

Now, it tempted me because I was a little sore at missing the close on three, count 'em THREE, separate grey Borso listings from this one seller and they looked nearly perfect.

When I got home, I checked to see that not only had I missed out on them but the whole world missed them. The auctions had ended with no bids.

This made some sense because the way he listed them kinda' buried them - oh, and I kept meaning to tell all you size 7s out there about it but it kept slipping my mind. :p

So he relists them - again poorly - and I was the only bidder at the end.

SO, I got three grey vintage Borsalinos each in better shape than the one I saw for $95.00 and the total for all three was .... drumroll.... Seventy-Five Clams!!

They arrived today. Here's the shots from the EB auction. One of them you may notice is the rollable travel hat I gave a glimpse of before. I can not believe how thin, light, soft and pliable it is. I'll get around to taking quality photos of them when there's not a tropical storm hangin' overhead.

Some hats are just meant to be with us and these waited for me to add them to the bunch so I'm real happy.

Congratulations H.P.G., That is a tremendous score. I have a few pocket hats and they are very useful in warmer weather. You will love it.

Road Trip Hats

My wife and I went on a little weekend road trip. Things began pretty well at our very first stop, where I bought three hats. These first two are going to Optimo sometime soon.

Dryfoos & Bach, Chamois, $75

This one is the prize, and I'm contacting the Sandusky Ohio Historical Society today to find out when the store closed. I know it opened in 1871,
I found the patent shown on the sweat here, and I learned that a chamois is indeed that goat-like animal shown on the sweat. I don't know yet,
but I'm guessing that this makes the hat sort of like cashmere. Resistol still sells Chamois hats, though the little that I've learned tells me that some
of these animals are protected.

It's very pliable, and very resilient. I can pop out the bash that's in it and there will be no trace of those dimples you'd normally see. I can then form a new bash, which will hold firmly. I'm excited to learn more about this one, the sole exception to my no-black-hats rule.

Thanks, Douglas.

LEFTY: WOW!!!!

Seems we've got a "hat trick" thread going. The three you grabbed up are tremendous and that black one does look like a perfectly preserved antique. You did great for yourself price-wise as well. I just love it for you all the way around!

Gene -- nice Borsos! Love the travel hat. :eusa_clap

Lefty -- Wow. That last lid is quite the find! :eusa_clap I'm curious as to who the manufacturer was. Based on the label, it almost looks like "Chamois" is the brand of hat. Any thoughts on that? I picked up an old Stetson on the Bay with "The Fray" mark on the sweat. I guess I always assumed that this was a mark associated with Stetson, but it looks like I may have been wrong about that. I look forward to any other info you can provide on this lid!

Cheers,
JtL
