These postings need a bit of an introduction. A large box arrived on my doorstep last week. It contained a kind and extremely generous gift from the north of Italy. Daniele @Daniele Tanto is cleaning up some of his vast collection and found some in my size. Under the ruse of the hats needing work he sent them my way. All most of them needed was the usual steaming, brushing and stretching, but I'm not complaining! So here they are (except for one, which still is on the stretcher).

Cambiaghi heather fedora in brown. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Weighs 113 grams. The unreeded sweatband and the style of crown patch tell us this is a very early one. Perfect for autumn.

That is one classy hom-bowler, Stefan.

For the final one (for now) I've saved a special one.
Panizza Zeffiro in black. Actually a homburg but because of the rather flat topped crown it resembles a cambridge bowler in style close enough for me to keep it open crown. Size 55 (so needed some stretching) with the bound brim at 6cm and the open crown at 13cm. One of the finest Panizzas I've seen and in pristine condition. Weighs 130 grams.

A few small considerations on these hats happily donated to Stefan.
He has been and perhaps will be again, depending on our mutual addictions, my biggest hat exchanger in the FL universe.
The contacts between Veneto and the Netherlands have been fruitful and full of satisfaction for both of us. We also shared a particular interest in hats made in Italy, their history and their becoming major players in the world of hat making.
I immediately thought of him when I was sorting out the hats to sell, but I also included, deliberately, hats of his size in some deals because they will go along with other magnificent ones from his immense collection.
It is always a pleasure to put some pearls in someone else's treasure chest when you have received some for your own.
I still have hats to give away, but they are for even smaller sizes.

Wormser - Custom Quality
Light to Medium grey with slight lavender hue
About 5 inch Crown as shaped
2 5/8 Brim with 3/8 binding
1 1/8 Grosgrain band with unique styling

This hat, beyond looking very dirty, caught my eye with its very nice ribbon styling with sort of a puggaree look and two wind trolley buttons sewn on for style. Then realizing this was a Wormser a brand I’ve had on my list a while… and not just a late 50s or 60s Wormser likely made by Langenberg/Beaver this one looks to be a bit older.. my guess would be mid late 40s considering the style of unreeded sweat and the liner. Just a guess really on my part. I’m not too sure the history of Wormser… if they ever made their own hats or always had them produced. The liner does say “Styled by Wormser” which might indicate it was made by an outside house. The original pricing was $4.85.. There is a United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union tag so it’s definitely post 1934.. again I’m thinking mid to late 1940s.

I was not wrong in my assessment that this hat was very dirty…. However most of that brushed out… in huge clouds of dust. And it shaped up quite nicely… a little steam would smooth out a few creases here and there but it came up real nice. After all that dust came out… the felt in the sunlight shows an almost light lavender hue in the medium to light grey felt. The old soft thin sweatband is still supple… but the surface is starting to get a bit craggy as well as some of the stitching threads are starting to wear away. All in all… considering its shape styling, profile and vintage there is a lot to like about this hat.

This one along with the Game Bird earlier in the week almost take away the sting of watching a 30s Melton slip through my fingertips a couple weeks back…. Almost.

Hom-bowler: I'm going with that one! Thanks, Randy.

Well, nothing I need to add. Perfect illustration of what the Lounge should be all about. Thanks again, Daniele!

Very cool find, Joe. Nice bit of panache with the two buttons on the ribbon. Wormser made very attractive hats.

That's a nice find, Joe. Great looking in and out.

Wormsers always seem to be good looking hats.

Had to get this even though it doesn't fit me.
Borsalino fedora in a warm grey colour called pomice. Size 59 with the bound brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Nice lightweight hat at just 96 grams. There is some nap to the felt and it has an elegant ribbed ribbon. It's going to the classifieds, because it's not my size.
