My new Playboy arrived today, it is a beautiful example of an unlined Playboy.

It's clean, the felt is in great shape, but unfortunately not my size. I took a shot on a hat with no size tag, could have been good but not it's not for me. It turns out it is probably a 6 7/8. I don't keep hats that I can't wear. So back to the Bay it goes unless someone on here would like it.
That hat is stunning !!

This Royal Deluxe Stetson from the late 50's popped up on last week on Etsy for a really good price. Just needed a good cleaning and fixing up...
It was pretty dirty. After a bath in the Coleman's, it's even prettier clean. :) The thick plastic liner tip cover wasmaking it so the hat only wanted to be in a shallow pork pie. Now, I don't mind when a hat suggests a crease, but whrn a totally unnecessary part of the hat tries to dictate a crease, well, it had to go. I then soaked the liner in a oxy-clean bath. It took out some of the yellow, but also removed some of the oxidized ink from the tip logo. And I had to glue the size tag back on...but all in all a nice hat.

No factory stickers under the sweatband.
5 inch open crown, 2 1/4 inch brim. A very nice light 101 grams. Thin, soft felt.
Well worth the effort to fix it up!

I love successful rehab stories! Pristine hats are nice for sure, but I love the dirty, crushed neglected, "Mutt" hats that clean up surprisingly well

Cool find and nice job, John. I dig the ribbon - I wonder if it is original.

Woo Hoo! New project / conversion hat in today. 4x Stetson beaver cowboy hat. Definately not my style lol. Hats needs some cleaning, but in decent shape and should soon be a fun "Convert to a fedora" project. Not bad for a $26 hat!

And now the one I was really waiting for came in today! A United States Marine Corps fiber range sun helmet. In 1975 I had a summer of temporary duty there and I borrowed this from a buddy at the firearms range in Quantico, Va. I talked with him a few days back and mentioned my hat addiction. He said he still had two of these and sent me one!. (He kept the nice one... this one still has the worn spot in the center that I remember lol) I had very limited firearms duties that summer, but I WAS assigned there and got to wear the range hat to distinguish me form the officer candidates! ( I did get pretty good at policing up garbage, Painting and general facility maintenance lol)

Its got a few stains to clean off after 45 yrs in someones closet, but its all intact and in decent shape

. Glad I still had a box full of Marine stuff, so I had the Big Barracks Hat emblem ready to screw on. just need to scarifice a shoelace so I can relace the sweatband adjustment.

Not one of my regular fur felt hats, but actually having a personal history with this exact cover, Im thrilled! (Little things make old Marines grin I guess! lol

And if you ever find yourself in the tropics you can wear it under the coconut trees.

While stationed in Diego Garcia (assigned to the US Navy armory where we facilitated the Marines small arms training) it was said that only one service member had ever died on island and that from a falling coconut.

I would have figured in Diego, they were at least a couple cases of Pneumonia a year among the Air Force guys from cranking the A/C down too far in their trailer lol

Montecristi Panama "Gambler". 2 3/4" brim. Ive been eyeing this one ever since I got my first panama a couple years back. Got it only two weeks ago directly from Ecuador. I absolutely love the proportions and the almost flat brim with a very subtle and elegant snap. Downside: the brim can be floppy in windy weather, but that's sadly unavoidable with natural straw and a brim this flat.

Consistent, light natural colour, and a round brim without any dents, peaks or flat spots. Thats important to me.
